I started collecting Pentax back when the earth was flat. My first Pro 35mm slide camera was a Spotmatic in ’69. But then I got too many and I decided to cut it off at the Electro. And I still have too many. So now, I concentrate on black bodies but the goal is a fine example representative of each M42 model and variation. I may be on a quixotic journey since it has occurred to me that some models may never have been made in black, and when I sometimes find one I do not have, they are the price of a good used car.
Can anyone direct me to where I can find out if all models were made in black or not. I suspect the budget models (H1/S1, SP 500, etc.) may never have been made in black.
I still think that the Spotmatic is at the asymptote in industrial design and quality!

the spotmatic is one of the most beautiful pieces of industrial art ever made. i rank it with the swedish mauser m-96 rifle and winchester model 94 rifle.
From PentaxForums.com: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-film-slr-discussion/57517-introduc...#ixzz2Clw9SSYZ You're correct on all three counts! However, In use I prefer my Model 86 in 45-70 and my M-1.
Pix of screw mount pentax to follow (did Pentax make any cameras after they abandoned the M42 screw mount?) |

Scored a cherry (not a virgin but still a teen) SV with a 3.5/28 and a perfectly performing Gossen Pilot at the Goodwill Friday for less than an hour of overtime!!! Works perfectly and what a wonderful, uncluttered wiewfinder!
Brings me back to the beginning of my career. How did this 40 year old camera stay unused for so long and why was it given away?
Pix and test shots of this and my H1a in my bucket.
How many Tri X grains = 1pixel?
