That really is nice, especially the second one, did you use a tripod or were you just frozen solid along with the plant.

I'm afraid that 58 is not part of my collection.

Nicely done.

A couple of years back I seem to remember reading somewhere that Pentax had made around 35 million lenses - enjoy.

I started out long long ago, my first "good" single lens reflex was an m42 screw mount Yashica bought around 1962/3 with a 50mm F2.0 lens, only the other day I discovered that the lens is thought to have been made for Yashica by Tomioka the legendary lens maker, still works perfectly, you learn something every day. My first Digital SLR was the Pentax K200D the last of the Pentax CCD sensors, still works great, I don't think CMOS sensor quality caught up with that from a CCD until the K70, but that of course is my personal opinion.

May I suggest that, if you have not already done so, you wander over to YouTube and look at the excellent videos produced by Utak and vyoufinder who show interesting aspects of lens design and other photographic subjects.

There is also a guy called Steve O'Nions, from somewhere in the North of England who covers many aspects of photography both film and digital and shows that even in the worst of weather good photography is still possible.

Those three produce, in my opinion, really solid information with none of the "Hey look at me I'm great" carry on of so many YouTuber's.

Take care.

That lens seems to work just beautifully on the K-1, the old adage of put your money into good glass seems to ring true.

Just a warning, having got caught myself, the Brexit show in the UK coupled with current trade wars seems to have garnered a lot more Customs and Excise people with an interest in photographic gear than there used to be, so if you are thinking of buying something from outside your area check out how much duty and any other tax they can think of applying might come to. I got stuck for Import duty and VAT (Value Added Tax) at 23% levied on both the goods and postage plus a €10 charge from the post office for collecting the taxes. I'm sure there's some keen type sitting in an office somewhere thinking of what more they can charge.

I remember the London Camera Exchange from when I was in London during the 1950's/60's, I would have thought they went under years ago.

By the way I think I remember reading about Brixham in Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons books as a child but never actually seen it until your post.

This idea does not apply only to Taks or other M42 lenses for that matter, I have a K200D which I mainly use with M series lenses, a K7 relegated to the workshop because it's sensor is not that great over ISO400 and a K70 which I use almost exclusively with my 3 DA Ltd's and a 50mm FA 1.7 (a very nice lens), each outfit in a different bag so its easy to pick up which outfit you want without having to search.

The Taks and other M42 lenses are used mostly on either a Voigtlander VSL or a Ricoh KR-10 film body - one for B & W and the other for colour, I do have a Spotmatic but it needs to be repaired, I have thought about sending it to Eric but I know that if I do I will be nailed by the customs for import duties, vat and anything else they can think of.

Thank you for your concern, actually where I live came off very lightly, I'm on the west (Atlantic) coast of Kerry and we usually get hammered but what was left of the eye passed up along the west coast and it seems that areas further away from the eye got more of a pasting particularly along the east coast side.

It looks like this new storm due Friday/Saturday could hit us more as its coming from the usual direction and there will be a very high tide, living on the west coast you kind of get used to them, we design for wind speeds of 51m/sec whereas over on the other side, say around Dublin, its 44m/sec, the roofing manual calls for all sorts of fancy nailing patterns for roof tiles, like nail one miss two nail one etc, we just nail everything and it stays put, well hopefully it does anyway.

Very nice, when I see pictures like this, with somebody walking out of the view, I always start wondering what happened to that person, where are they now.

The hoods also reduce flare in certain circumstances, of course you need the sun to come out of hiding for that to occur.

Thanks very much Dave, I had a quick scout around and was only able to locate a similar one on Amazon UK, two models one for £377 and another for £399, I shall enquire further. I recently upgraded to the 18-55 WR because the weather of late has been poor, it held up better than I did yesterday.

I know you mentioned it before somewhere but is this cabinet a special piece of equipment or just a corner in the hot press (i.e. airing cupboard in the UK I suppose).

I had thought about using our hot press but this was vetoed by higher authority and the daughters.

The passport office has taken on about 200 or so extra staff to deal with the numbers of people who have discovered their Irish roots and suddenly need an Irish passport, not sure if there is a time limit on applications. OK so it might get you in and out of the EU if necessary but I have no idea what else it entitles you to, if anything.

There are a lot of UK and American companies who seem to be hedging their bets and opening offices here in various places to keep one foot in the EU, I suspect mostly on the grounds that English is spoken which is surprising in a way as judging by the tourists who come here many continental people have a pretty good command of it as well and on the continent you wouldn't have a sea crossing and possibly a hard border as well to contend with.

Of course English isn't spoken everywhere here there are areas where Irish is the native tongue. I was in a little cafe back in Dingle a couple of years ago and was amused by some perplexed American tourists watching two elderly ladies having a discussion over tea and cakes, one was talking Irish and the other English without any pause in the conversation, obviously each was speaking the tongue they were more comfortable in but the understanding between them was perfect.

I would not have thought Dartmoor was that damp, misty though, making it difficult to escape from Her Majesty's Guest House and, if I remember correctly, it was an area of heavy population and agriculture in stone age times before some previous climate change occurred.

I live on the Atlantic coast of Ireland, 25mins downhill walk to the sea we get first choice in all the storms coming off the Atlantic and the salt they carry in the air can be detected 25 miles or more inland. In my 1960's house I have never noticed any problem with fungus in any lens from any maker and take no precautions to prevent it. You never go out without some kind of coat as Atlantic squalls arrive very quickly, there is rarely any cover and the clouds seem to glue themselves to our mountains.

I will admit that I have recently upgraded my kit lens to an 18/55 WR as a standby for when it decides to rain all day which seems to be getting more common lately, I don't like to rely on the seal between a screw mount lens with adapter and the camera electronics in rain which can be heavy at times, we never seemed to worry about film cameras and lenses in the rain and I don't remember any muttering about fungus from those times.

You can't always rely on getting sufficient clothes drying time between showers so you frequently find clothes on racks in the utility room and cooking pots occasionally steaming but the extra humidity has not so far caused any lens problem and I've had cameras and lenses in this part of the country since 1966.

Hi,

I too miss Mike Cash's contributions, he really got the club excited with his photos and his appreciation of the lenses. I seem to remember him saying he was having trouble with his Flickr account, they changed something and it upset his workflow, I know he was a truck driver or in his words,I think, Logistics Facilitator, but I always thought he should have been a full time photographer. He also made some contributions in the Tammy club, maybe they have news of him.

Hi,

Having seen what the 15mm went for the other night it's going to be bread and water for a while.

Those 17mm shots are really excellent, very well done, I shall have to have a serious talk with my K 17 and see what it will really do for me, I need all the help I can get.

Thank you, but most lenses these days are beyond my budget too. I suspect the mirrorless interchangeable lens brigade are to blame, there seems to have been a steady price increase in most lenses since their invention, some lenses have gone crazy altogether.

Thank you for your reply.

I understand now about the Tamrons and the FA43Ltd, strictly horses for courses, and if I had to fork out for the FA43Ltd I would be sure to use it too.

I actually use the M series simply because of the mount and find them very satisfactory.

I promise not to use the word "work" any more though in my opinion you leave most "photographers" standing.

Regards.

Mike, I have been admiring your work for a long time now, particularly the Dancer Series, now that you have sampled 2 Tamrons and the FA43Ltd how do they compare with your Takumars, if you have the time. Thank you.
