I was at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago yesterday and spotted a guy with a red K-x and red kit lens. I spoke to him briefly, complimenting him on his choice of camera. He said it was a great camera, but didn't say anything about me holding a K-r. Maybe he got it just for the color, as he was wearing red also. I think if I bought a red or white K-r or K-x, I'd be tempted to shoot with the kit lens a lot. But it's really too short for the outdoor animal shots and too slow for the low light indoor habitat shots at the zoo.

geekette, glad I could save you some cash!
I think I've run into maybe 2 Pentax shooters in person. And both were Asian. I'm Asian as well. I sold my K-x on craigslist to a guy. And when he showed up I was amused to see he was also Asian. I know Pentax is much bigger in Japan than the US. But is the US Pentax customer base skewed towards Asians for some odd reason?

I just got back from a few days at Disney World. I didn't feel like bringing my usual vacation stuff, K-x and 18-250mm vacation zoom and 30mm f/1.4 with me, as it's a bit much to carry when I go on rides. So I brought my Sony NEX-5 with 18-55mm lens. But I did take note of what dslrs I saw others carrying. I identified:
18 Canon
8 Nikon
4 Sony
1 Olympus
1 Pentax
I was very surprised early on because I saw 3 Sony dslrs before I saw any Nikons. I guess the Canon to Pentax ratio is about what I'd expect. But I'd expect to see more Nikons walking around.
