Now buy that manual Sunpak ringflash and you'll really be rocking the macro! The 100mm macro lens formula is outstanding.

Yeah, the old Pentax 50mm lenses are usually very sharp glass. They force you to really pay attention to your settings, too, so often you will nail your exposure as well. The A series helps with that of course. I haven't played with the 35-105 but all the 50s I have are quite good. I should play with them more frequently.
I found a Promaster 28-105 (rebadged with numerous names) which is quite sharp and a quick focuser (autofocus). You'll find nice surprises occasionally.

A lot of the Vivitar lenses are good, some aren't. The earlier ones were generally very good - and that's as universal as ANY generalization. The Series 1 lenses are well-regarded. You'll also find the Sigma min-wide 24mm series pop up.
Craigslist is a great source, just keep your eyes open. You'll find the better 50mm lenses pretty frequently, and then a real crapshoot for other gear.
Also keep an eye open for the Promaster lenses, some of those are great.
