Birds is your big question here. That's the only one where long FL is optimal. I'd set that aside and get a lens designed for long work.
Once you do that, the 16-85 starts to look very attractive, along with the Tamron.

16-135 is one I have, and it's a very useful walkaround lens. It's a bit soft at 135mm but better than I expected. The 16-85 did not exist when I purchased it.
