The august edition of Australian Photography just hit my letterbox, it contains their review of the K-1. The on line edition of the review can be found here - Camera test: Pentax K:1 - Australian Photography magazine.

A solid 9/10 rating seems fair to me. The summation is '... for the price, this is an outstanding camera'.

Fair enough. (although I didn't say anything about her being a woman, men have personal demons too) It just seemed a strange way to begin a review of a very serious piece of technology. To me, it said more about herself than it did about the camera. And yes, there is plenty of idiocy contained therein.

Not sure if this qualifies as 'media coverage', but this guy 'gets' the K-1. https://ericlwoods.com/2016/06/09/the-pentax-k-1-where-objective-and-subjective-meet/#comments

'Not the prettiest camera in the world, and a little on the heavy side'.

Looking in to the mirror are we Lori? Seriously, why would anyone begin a serious camera review with this statement. It seems to me she is reflecting some personal demons.

'The shake reduction system is not as good as the competitors' Which current competitors have a ff sensor with 5 axis IS?

This woman is a dolt, imagine having to pay to hear her views

The woman that does the camera reviews on Cnet is clearly both biased and ignorant. Lori Grunag or something is her name, she is so unworthy of my time that I couldn't be bothered to look up the correct spelling.

She bagged the K-3 when she clearly didn't understand it. She has bagged the K-1 sight unseen. The main problem she has with Pentax equipment seems to be it doesn't have Nikon or Canon on the name plate.

She ranks with Ben Stonehole as the most biased and least newsworthy 'reviewer'(I use the term losely) i have found on the net.

Read her reviews only at peril to your anger levels.

my google translator came up with the following -
"Long-awaited and, ~ I become dried fish" while give me the words of the angry and the like from our customers, Well door to the full-size machine was also courted the past year controversial nuclear also."

Quite amusing

Also that site called the K-1 the 'kewan'. This, I think could be a nickname that may stick. :)

Rod, I called in there last week, nary a Pentax in sight.

I'd suggest you call Paul at Kirk's and get on the list.

There are very few stores like Kirks still around. There are a few corporate chain stores like Camera House and Teds, etc, but few where you get to talk to the man who makes the purchasing decision for HIS store. That's why I'm trying to bring it to peoples attention. If we can all buy Pentax stuff through stores like Kirks, it will help both the store and the Pentax community.

I have other purely selfish reasons too. I want to be able to walk into a store and see an extensive range of Pentax equipment. It would bring a smile to my face. Generally the best source for Pentax equipment I know of is my camera cupboard...:D

Rod, I contacted them the day the K-1 was released and got myself on the early adopter queue. I assumed the K-1 would be around $2800-2900AUD. when the CRK list price of -what was it?- $3300? was announced I was not in a happy place. (I can afford it, but I dislike being played). I'm still on the CRK list but I have since cut a deal with Paul of Kirks in Ringwood to sell me the camera at the new CRK price, some $400 down on the original. I want to help the local retailers support carrying Penatx. I will honour both commitments, if need be. I'm sure I can find someone who wants to take my place in either queue. Or maybe I'll be the first person in the world with a dual K-1 setup :)
