The brand may be relatively popular there but that doesn't mean the streets are teeming with Pentaxians...

I remember, in 2017, seeing another K-3 with a silver 31mm on it (the only time I've ever seen a Limited in the wild) but not much else. I remember a good display in one of the big electronics shops.

:lol::lol::lol:

I've seen that in movies where a guy in a car (always in a car) has an SLR in hand and then we switch to seeing what he sees in the viewfinder and go "whoooah!! How is he seeing that, with that lens, 100m away and in the dark?"

Was it the Pentaxian who survived?

If it were a Pentax advert it would have been shelved once the budget got to $50.

:D

That's a surprise - I was under the impression that the K-3 III mono was in high demand and selling very well, with some delays in getting hold of one. Not Fujifilm-level delays, but something.

I've been to quite a few German-style christmas markets and never before heard of one which required the purchase of tickets.

I imagine at that time it would have been a Spotmatic or other M42 screw-mount SLR.

What about me? I shoot Pentax, Panasonic and Fujifilm in digital and Pentax, Canon, Nikon, Yashica, Olympus and Minolta in film.

Is being a camera gearhead part of being a Pentaxian?

:D

Or celebrated?

I like it.

Welcome to the club and I'm glad you're enjoying your gear.

SRS Microsystems are the retailer of choice for Pentax in the UK. They stock just about everything and often have the best prices too.

I checked their website to see how over-priced the K70 would be but actually some of their prices are pretty good.

I noticed that they have both versions of the new FA 50/1.4 available for pre-order and that the SMC version is listed as £100 more than the HD one!

I just back from a holiday and saw one Pentax - I think it was an ME though it could have been a different M series camera.

I think I've only ever once seen a Leica in the wild - in Granada (Spain) in 2014. He was sat in the terrace of the same bar as us and spent the entire time fondling his gear.

The user might have wanted something small and light but with a bit of range. It's not what I'd have used but I can understand the decision.

I can only interpret that as the joke being on the woman for thinking that the consistency of animal faeces has anything to do with religion. It'd be like refusing to discuss cameras because the other person knows nothing about car repair.

The idea among CaNikon owners (and even non-owners) that anything other than those two is a poor substitute is very pervasive. I suppose Sony these days to some degree too. It has no basis in reality unless you really need a D6, 1DX, Z9 or A1 for your photography. Having a top-level monster pro model in your line-up has no impact on cameras that do not need those specs, many of which are better choices for 95% of pros.

On Thursday I was in the centre of Madrid and saw a tourist with a Pentax DSLR and what looked like an old Sigma kit zoom. I couldn't see which model the camera was, could have been a K200D or something of a similar era.

Last week in Edinburgh I saw a couple of girls out with film cameras - one was a Nikon F3 and the other was a black ME Super. The other film camera I saw there was an Olympus, I don't know the model.

Of the many digital cameras I saw there was quite a mix - entry level CaNikon SLRs (with kit lenses or super-zooms), compacts, a couple of APS-C Sony mirrorless (with kit lenses), a Nikon FF mirrorless and a professional photographer shooting some wedding photos (pre or post, I don't know) with what I think was a Sony A7 of some sort.

Surely mobiles with their predominantly wide angle lenses are a poor choice for most sailboat photography?

I took my daughters to the zoo on Friday and toward the end of the day there was an older lady using a DSLR to shoot some of the animals. Once I got a better look I saw it was a Pentax with some kind of Sigma super-zoom: 18-200ish. I'm not sure about the camera model but it had a top screen.

I was using my K-3 and Sigma 105/2.8.

Yep, Pentax is a rare brand here though DSLRs can still be seen in many tourist spots, as can super-zooms. Phones are certainly the most used cameras though.

I think it's the price we pay for the constant feature creep - all those features need electronics to run them and that takes up space. Sensors don't have dramatic IQ differences from the previous generation. AF systems are very advanced and difficult to further approve. If a manufacturer leaves out new or advanced features then they'd get knocked in reviews more than they do for making their gear larger.

If I were to say the biggest differences between my X-T20 and K-3 I'd say size and AF reliability are the big ones, and of course the viewfinder type and all that goes with it. Colour science is obviously different and like you I prefer the K3 for some things and the Fujifilm for others.

As for size, I can't really comment as I don't have much experience. I also have an X-M1 that is smaller than the X-T20 but then it lacks the viewfinder so that's to be expected. My S5 is about the same size and weight as the K-3 though the shape is different and even if newer FF mirrorless cameras are bigger than their predecessors, they're still smaller and lighter than an equivalent DSLR.

FOUR Pentaxians together? Sounds like it would cause a rip in the space/time continuum...

I've always thought that the Nikon users were just a smidge smarter than the Canon ones and were able to put their lens hoods on the right way round. I wonder what he thinks it's for? Does he know it's detachable?

:D

That's a shame, and I'd say a step too far in the move to mirrorless. Not supplying parts for a five-year-old camera.

I don't think Pentax need to increase the resolution of a new K-1 model, plenty of people don't want bigger files (I know I wouldn't) but I think they're going to find their options very limited when it comes to obtaining a new sensor - they will all have on-sensor AF pixels. All the "budget" FF mirrorless bodies use 20 to 24MP sensors so they might even need to downgrade to that to keep costs under control (though the 24MP sensor in my S5 is great, I have no complaints at all).
