I think it is part of the "art" of photography to create a different image of a familiar scene. Lighting and weather as Steve points out are two variables. Others are camera position and angle. Throw a wide angle or telephoto into the mix too. Go for a narrow DOF by shooting wide open, or slow the shutter speed right down to create blur.

The list is as they say, endless.
