My Samyang 100-500mm has the "A" setting but my latest lens, the Sears (Samyang) doesn't.

Got a new Samyang today. Bought on the forum. It's branded Sears but was told it is actually a Samyang. 135mm f2.8. This first one was shot at f13. The second at f11. |

Wow repaap, nice shots. Now you have me wanting the 85. :D
I wanted to ask a question also, probably not a Samyang problem but wanted to be sure. As some of you know I have a Samyang 100-500mm A lens. I used it recently in a Single in challenge and wanting to check my shutter count, I uploaded a photo to PhotoMe. Well, PhotoMe is reading this lens as a Sigma 400mm f4. Is it PhotoMe that's wrong or what?

That Samyang 100-500mm f7.1 is working out just fine. Here's a photo I took a couple of days ago: |

It sure didn't. Well, I'm going to have to fix that. But for the bird it was ISO400, @1/125 and f8. I never shoot birds at 1/125s. I had another lens on the camera earlier and didn't reset the shutter speed. This is the only shot I got today with the Samyang because just as I set the tripod and camera/lens up, company showed up and I was talking, so that is probably why I didn't catch the slower shutter speed also.

I forget to look for PF when processing photos. I see the part you're talking about icy, and also along the back there is some. But on the Ibis, I don't see any at all. The black fringe near its tail is black feathers that are natural.
And thanks for the compliment.

I guess I'll have to look for the printed book because I don't own a Ipod.

This has been my problem all along, Lowell, the guide I use, Cornell Labs on birds, doesn't always show immature or even juvenile birds. Thanks for the ID. Is siblys online or a bought book?
Thanks for clarification on my lens also.

Question: how do you know who really made your Samyang lens? I've searched google and the names come up associated with Promaster. But how do you really tell?
Here are a couple of shots from yesterday when I got the lens. These were handheld so not quite as sharp as my other bird photos from the 70-300 sigma lens. Next shots will be with lens tripod mounted. I was just testing the lens for reach.
Ibis:
And some kind of egret or heron. I could not find a definite ID on this bird. I think it's a juvenile Little Blue Heron.
And someone said they saw PF on these photos. I can't tell if there is any or not.

I was searching Google for Samyang lenses and this thread came up. I didn't know PF had such a thread. Good to know because I'm buying a Samyang lens off a member here. Perhaps later I'll show you some photos taken with it. Luckily, it's just what I've been looking for, for my birding photography. A Samyang 100-500mm K-mount.
