Battery For The Pentax Remote F

Some folks mentioned the Battery in the Pentax Remote Control F cannot be changed and the Remote has to be chucked out after it dies.
Note that the battery CAN BE CHANGED. There is nothing you can damage in the dismantling process as there are very few parts and it is so simply built. Here is how you can change the battery:-
Get a jewelers / watch makers screw driver set - $ 4 to 8. Use the round Philips type screw driver - the medium sized one from the set.
You will notice 3 black screws on the back of the body. Gently unscrew them and lift the back cover out. You can see the thin round Button Cell held in a wire cage attached to the circuit board. Note the battery layout carefully (positive and negative cell face) as you will have to put back the new battery in the same way. Infact you can lift out the circuit board with the attached battery and the infra red emitter safely from the front cover shell. Be careful not to drop the rubber button sitting in the front cover. If by chance you do dislodge it dont worry. Just pick it up and put it back in its slot.
Now pull or push the Button Cell out from the simple wire cage and insert a fresh Battery. The Cell is a CR 1620 3volt type by Panasonic. But you should be able to buy any available make. Push it into the wire button cell holder and assemble in the reverse order as you opened it. Just make sure the back cover fits snugly in place before you screw it down.
Note the button cell is 16 mm dia x 1.5 mm thick. In case you do not find this particular model, buy any 1.5 to 2 mm thick 3v button cell in 16 mm or smaller dia.
Place the circuit board back on the front half of the Plastic shell. Lift the wire button cell holder a bit and insert your new battery. If using a smaller cell make sure the positive and negative face contacts are ok.
It is very very easy. Now use your remote for years and years - after all it costs quite a bit.
