I took the whole lever out of the way, just by lifting it. But I also changed the whole bayonet to EF, not sure if removing the lever is enough for the adapters.

I think I ran into a similar problem. The aperture ring which is curved slipped past its highest point and it was difficult to get it back on track. Pushing the pin to the outer rim and sliding the aperture slider back in position did the job. This happened to me while I was making an adapter for my 5D2.
