OK I hear you, cleaned up the matrix sorted the xls file and commonized the titles. I think that common lenses will now be listed in order.

I made an adapter for the Argus mount using the rear cap drilled out and glued to several c mount extension tubes then a C to Q adapter. This is the 100mm f 4.5 lens. I added extension tubes until I got it to focus, got it close to the correct standoff then glued the mess together. It will focus beyond infinity but still will close focus so it's close. The setup works well but not as sharp as my SMC M 135 f3.5 and the 50 is not as sharp as my SMC A 50 but it was fun. It is a small lens max aperture of f4.5 when stopped down to f5.6 it's not bad. It makes a small 560mm equiv. package on my Q
Shot with the Argus 100mm lens at about f5.6 ---------- Post added 11-15-2014 at 05:58 PM ---------- index is updated
Larry still not sure if my Google drive is updating to the web, check for a new file date 11/15 and let me know, thanks

Thanks for the info, it was quite interesting and I am sure it will provide others with ideas on adapting other lenses.
The link below provides info into C and D mount and most others. The flange distance info is the most important but if you click on the mount in the chart it will also provide thread sizes.
Thanks again for your input
Thanks also to cunesk8, & rendition for the additional info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flange_focal_distance |

Chart updated, cunesk8, rendition, jacobsr, guys could you please add some additional mount info to your posts, in some cases the info is lacking if it's a C, CS, D or other mount and what was required to get it working. In the chart all are listed as "other mount" but if someone is looking to adapt a lens the additional info would be helpful
Thanks

Well that is what we were trying to do on a larger scale. To answer your question the best long lens is the DA*300 then the DFA 100 macro, many people also like the SMC M 135 f3.5. I find my copy of the SMC F 80-200 zoom is also quite good

Nice to hear from you Scott, I agree your lens does perform well, I also like having a 200mm zoom on my Q, in my case an old F 80-200. I have stayed away from the 50-200 because of all the bad press but your images might change that, nice shooting

Nice stuff Larry, that little hummer almost looks like a fish, the tripod really helps with sharpness I can't get that good hand held. That osprey looks like he is looking at you as prey.

I didn't notice but you are correct. I tried to fix if but it's not WB or PP it was in the orig image. I think it's the blue sky deflecting. Ths croc should be brownish green. I looked at other images same croc, camera, day but from the side and they're the correct color. Go figure
Edit: I reprocessed the shot and reposted above still not great but

That was one of the results we hoped for from this thread, most of the lenses listed in this thread will state the best aperture for that lens. Go to the first post on this thread for a list of lenses tested.
From what I can see on most of the threads I have followed,
* Use an LCD eye piece hood Amazon.com: Century Accessory V5 3" 4:3 LCD 2.8x Viewfinder Magnifier Extender Hood EyeCup Compatible for Nikon 1 J1 DSLR Camera: Electronics
* Shoot between f5.6 and f8 (smaller than f4 causes diffraction on a Q) but some lenses still look better at smaller than f4 apertures f8 is max
* The Q is very demanding on lenses so it needs to be a very sharp lens
* The best long lens I have seen people use is the DA* 300 f4, Many also use the SMC-M 135 f3.5, and the DA 55-300 is also popular
* Some people find that using a slightly shorter SR value also helps like 105 for a 135
* Use a tripod
* If the subject or camera is moving the OEM Pentax adapter will provide a sharper image
This should get you started

Thanks, when you adapt lenses the aperture is a balance between defraction and depth of field, check the postings in this thread for the best aperture to use, for most lenses its about f5.6 to f8

Q7 and the Pentax OEM adapter with SMC-F 80-200 lens. Lens stopped down to F8 shot at ISO 100 First a Limpkin then a small Blue Heron in mating plumage in a small canal. Shots processed in LR 5. I got about 25% keepers using peaking and a LCD eyepiece hood The lens is available on Ebay, got mine for $20 and it is quite sharp on the Q and Q7 All shots bwtween 80 and 200mm (940mm) hand held This lens lives on my adapter IMGP0372 by hnikesch, on Flickr IMGP0305 by hnikesch, on Flickr IMGP0293 by hnikesch, on Flickr IMGP0352 by hnikesch, on Flickr IMGP0323-Edit by hnikesch, on Flickr IMGP0313 by hnikesch, on Flickr IMGP0266 by hnikesch, on Flickr ---------- Post added 03-07-2014 at 04:29 PM ---------- Chart Updated

For me the SMC-M 135 f3.5 and SMC-F 80-200 are great, both are often avail. on Ebay for under $50. The 80-200 zoom is light and has a internal zoom and at the 135 range as good as my SMC-M 135 but has the advantage of the zoom range

You might want to play with apertures a little most of the tested lenses work best at about f5.6 or abouts
