Sobering, isn't it. :o
I have done some fairly decent work with my phone cams and currently use my Samsung S5 in preference to the Olympus XA that I used to carry for spur of the moment shots.

Oh, yes! The Burroughs Mountain Trail (second Burroughs?)! It is almost always difficult for photography since the sun is almost always in the picture during the hours when most photographers are on the trail. Looks like you were there on a great day.

Same here.
I have finally come to the conclusion that the birds are flying crazy in an attempt to evade a Coopers Hawk that periodically buzzes the neighbors feeders. I was in the back yard a week ago and was startled to have the hawk pass about a foot above my head to thread skilfully between the trees to the neighbors place. If he were passing the other direction chasing a small bird, the victim would be corralled near my window (they always hit the same one). The open space on the other side would be a decision of desperate chance.
