Welcome the Southeastern U.S.. Copperheads may be quite common even in the suburbs and have excellent cammoflage. I agree that it is usually good to live and let live and let nature be nature, but that balance tilts a little away from the snake's favor when they are in a position to harm our animals or family members. My sister and brother-in-law have a weekend home in mountains in North Carolina. If he finds a copperhead on the property, it is quite quickly a dead copperhead; there is no sense risking the well-being of their two dogs.

A few years ago, my daughter (about 11 at the time) and I were hiking with a group in the Columbia River Gorge east of my home. She and another girl asked permission to run ahead of the rest of us and we gave our permission. About ten minutes later we came across a very agitated rattlesnake coiled about 2 feet off the trail and well within striking distance of someone passing by. We gave it a broad margin of respect and continued on to the parking lot where the girls were out of breath and waiting. I asked them about the snake and they said, "Snake? What snake?" I very quickly realized the reason for the snake's agitation and was prayerfully thankful that they did not stumble or stop there.

Yes, rattlesnakes are not uncommon in that part of the gorge, but not usually in the forest and we were off our guard.

I see! It is also likely that the hot shoe spring clip is on the forest floor somewhere.

(Will have to remember that U.S. Camera has these parts lists and diagrams.)

It also looks like the body needs the old screws extracted. That is the greater challenge and probably more expensive than getting a replacement hot shoe assembly.

For the owner of a AF360FGII, that is a big loss.

You might want to investigate your options for P-TTL triggers. It may be cheaper to fix the camera.

Welcome to the Pentax Forums!

Your options are to pay to have it fixed or attempt to fix it yourself or not use P-TTL flash again. I would expect that parts would be required, either new or from a donor body for a fix. A kludge might be to do something with gobs of epoxy.

Are you sure that the hot shoe is the only point of damage?

As for repair resources, Precision Camera Repair in Connecticut (no relation to Precision Camera in Austin) is the "official" Pentax repair facility for the U.S.. Another option might be Advance Camera Repair in Portland, Oregon. They are a Pentax-authorized repair shop and are should be able to order the parts needed for repair.
