Well the cheapest DSLR I have had was the K-x and it never let me down, in fact my daughter is still using it to this day with great results. I have never had any of the issues with any of my camera bodies like you mentioned.
As for the mirrorless? I dont even bother with them, to me they are just the lastest "new fangled" gadget that folks are jumping on the bandwagon and chomping at the bit to get their hands on, reminds me of the insanely huge lines outside the stores every time they announce a new Iphone.....sheeple....

Fellow members of my Camaro club have DSLRs, the usual run of the mill Canikony, but when we are around each other we share our passion for photography, and mostly talk about lenses/focal lengths/ composition/ etc......
I would rather see someone shooting with real photo equipment instead of cellphones/gadgets.
One time I was questioned why I shoot Pentax,,. I responded that I have shot Pentax all my life, it just suits me, and Pentax has never failed me for getting the images I want......

One thing I have learned about Pentax...you can always spot a Pentax shooter in a crowd very easily- They are the ones shooting images!
What I mean by that is this- most of the Nikon/Cannon/Sony "sheeple" I see are usually sporting their gear hanging around their necks with the largest lens in there collection attached to it, wearing it like it some kind of "bling" jewelry, and most of the time when I can get close enough to see their settings, the dang things are set in "auto"
everytime I noticed a Pentax shooter, they are the ones getting out there and shooting images, and paying no attention to the other photographers, they are the ones getting "the shot"
Pentax shooters are not out there wearing their equipment around their necks like it some kind of fashion accessory/statement, they USE their equipment. I also noticed that a Pentax shooter is really easy to spot around anything involving water, they are the ones with their cameras out, getting wet. I went on several water rides at Disney World last year and was the only one with a camera out, the other folks had to either stow away there cameras in a locker or in the center storage area on the actual ride itself, folks were looking at me like I was crazy taking a nice DSLR on such rides and snapping shots of my family on the same ride.....too funny, I was having a blast with that.

Last night I was watching that guy that does articles on animals Austin Stevens, he was out on the Savana Desert and chasing down leopards, when he stopped and pulled out his DSLR I noticed it was a Samsung and I wasn't paying attention to the lens, a little while later he pulled out his camera again and from the side I noticed the name "Pentax" on the lens, from what I gather it was most likely a DA 300mm F4 lens. The view the audience got of the lens was enough to classify this article as an "advertisement" for Pentax, he was taking many shots with it and you could really see the name on it really well.

I just recently found a Brick and Mortar shop in Aiken SC called Chris' Camera that I practically drove right by everytime I went to Aiken (about twice a month) I went in there smiling from ear to ear, the guy asked me why I was so happy I told him I was just happy to actually find a camera shop, they even had lots of Pentax accessories, however they only had a K-7 in the glass case with a high price tag. I asked them if they were going to ever carry other Pentax cameras and he told me that they are actually considering it and that they have been contacted by Pentax reps.
They had several Tamron lenses in there (PK mount) that he let me try out on my K-5. Him and I went outside with a Tamron 70-200 2.8 macro zoom (which I was very pleased with, and they had a decent price on) I took a couple of shots and turned to go inside, he says"are you gonna take some test shots?" I told him that I did, the camera is just very quiet, I told him to listen really close when I took another shot, he was very impressed at how quiet the K-5 was. He told me he shoots a Canon 5D FF camera and compared to the K-5 it is so loud it practically rattles his brains every time he takes a shot.
I let him handle the K-5 and he really like how it felt and handled, I let him take a few test shots and once again he was impressed. He was like "Wow! I'm thinking of getting an APSC camera for carrying around easier everyday portability, I am definitely going to consider one of these Pentaxes!" He told me he really likes his Canon but it is rather large and heavy, he liked the size and weight of my K-5 with the battery grip, and THAT was with that Tamron zoom still attached to it.
So, what really happened there probably is he sold me on a lens and I sold him on a future camera, just thought I would share. Did I mention I was stoked about actually finding a camera store?

I just spent two weeks at Disney World and Universal Studios, I saw a handful of Pentax Cameras, mostly K-5s, and a few K-x/rs, I have learned that Pentax's are easy to spot near water attractions and when it is raining, because they are the only ones out when it IS raining........ha ha, gotta luv em

I will be heading to Disney world and Universal Studios next month armed with a combination of my K-5, DA 18-135mm zoom, and Battery grip only, nothing else as I want to keep everything compact and simple and just enjoy myself with my kids. I will definitely be keeping my Pentax radar up and I will let you all know how many I encounter if any.
I am buying the zoom lens and battery grip for the trip because I really want my whole set up to be WR and I really dont want to worry about the setup getting wet at water parks/rides etc... I have that much confidence in Pentax to trust the WR on my trip.

PS: the wife will be packing the K-x as well in her Lowpro toploader bag, this bag has a rain cover that she can deploy in wet areas but she will be limited to what environments she can take her camera out in, I will be the main photographer on this trip with the weather sealing on my camera(my K-5 will not ever be in a bag anyways, always at the ready), I will not even be afraid to take it on water rides where I can get some good shots of my kids having fun on those rides......really looking forward to it, this trip will be a true test as to the durability of a Pentax, and if it fails me then I will most likely leave Pentax, but I doubt it will let me down.........Pentax never has let me down in the 35 years I have been using them.
