Or at the other end of the range, the un-stabilized Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM only weighs 705 g.
That lens also retails for a modest US $599 at B&H. Let's hope Ricoh can emulate both the price and weight of that 70-200. :)

AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/4G ED VR
Weight 850 g
Tamron 70-210mm f/4 Di VC USD
Weight 850.5 g
Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM
Weight 780g
I guess it would be reasonable to expect the Pentax 70-200 f4 will be within the same weight range as it's peers.

The DA* 60-250 f4 still exists, still for sale new. Close enough to 70-200 f4. No need to wait. :)

Is there a patent out for a Pentax 70-200 f4? That would be an early decider of whether it is an entirely Pentax lens, and a new design too.
A patent would need to be registered as I presume the optical design for such a new Pentax lens would be substantially different from the DFA 70-200 f2.8. It could not merely be a shrunken down DFA 70-200 f2.8. The optical design of, for example, the Nikon 70-200 f4 is clearly different from the Nikon 70-200 f2.8, ditto for the Canon f4 and f2.8 70-200's.

Tamron recently released a new 70-210 f4. I wonder if the new Pentax lens will also be 70-210 ...
