Just wonderful shots sau....they remind me why I felt the 35ltd was one of the finest general everyday shooter lenses I ever used. Plus it is a close-focus to true macro monster! Thanks for your every nice shots... :)

PS: welcome to the forums, I am still new here as well and find the people here are super fun and always ready to help each other out...most of the time...hehehehe....

thanks Marc, for some reason I remembered the 15ltd as being more in the $420 range last June/July but I was absorbing so many details at the time I don't doubt I have that one misremembered. And while it's still not cheap, from what I have seen so far, it is a vastly better lense than the f4 max aperture would imply. To be completely honest, I am shocked at the superb IQ as well as resolving power of the lens. Thanks for giving me even more reason ti like the danged thing! :p But I have to replace my 35ltd, get a couple new ebook reading devices, finally grab a K7, get some sort of 1.2 and then I can look at the 15ltd...oh and somewhere in there food (also have the horrid addiction since I was a kid in LOVING to cook and all the fun tools which go along with that...can you say Le Le Creuset & Calphalon? My knives cost more than my darned K20D! *), heat and the occasional quarterly tax payment has to be covered. hehehehe....and there there is the whole female factor, though she really wants me to have lenses and such since they make me really happy.

*I actually have a valid health reason for the cooking these days so I never eat out and have no choice but cooking 3-5x daily...poor me...hehehehehe

"J":

Seriously, I know I teased in your other thread, but the quality of even your 'numpty' shots are just a joy to view...and as I said you and others have me sold on a 15ltd even at the new prices. It won't be tomorrow but it will happen.

Thanks for all that positive reinforcement knowing there are some just super gear options and LBA gives a guy a reason to keep living...hehehehe....because he who dies with the most lenses wins, right?

Hey me too, finished math undergrad in '94, and my CS (double major) at the same time...I cheated and looked it up and the theorem was proved in '95, apparently and if the Wiki is correct. And like you, I so got away from working in the world of mathematics I don't think I could even teach a basic calculus course w/o a month of working through the text. And forget anything from "gradual school"... ;)

Like you it's fun for me even today, but the immersion of living it daily is just not there, nor do I feel I have the quickness of thought needed to truly enjoy the work. Someday though I would still love to tackle the idea of a "Möbius Sphere", I blew a few synapses of a couple of my profs when I proposed that idea. Something about the idea of a sphere that has no inner surface nor outer surface just feels right...even if the work eventually would show it to be impossible.

OK, I won't drag this OT anymore either...funny though, how many math & science folks are draw to photography as a creative diversion.

what a wondeful shot. I just shipped off my 35ltd yesterday in a trade, but I KNOW it will be replaced soon as I am able. I lived with the same "two darlings", a 77ltd & 35ltd for a few months and never felt need of a better combo.

Love the color and color reproduction in your shot. The detail, texture as well as the slight parchment color, in the paper on the label is very eye catching.

Yeah, actually it was in the mid-90s while I was still actually using that degree to earn a living. I forget the name of the guy who finally did it. As I recall it was a very creative solution, but the tools he used were not around back in Fermat's day.

Something that has always fascinated me is how much of what we use today, and take for granted as well as use as if it was invented last week, but how much of the world of mathematics was either proved or postulated back in the 1600s-1800s. Seems those "primitives" withing the light bulb or computers had an idea or two. It was what made me move toward pure mathematics over applied. Those my fav paper I wrote was using difference equations to solve a simple Diff Eq system then wrote a small program to project that solution onto a computer screen to show the fractal nature. That area was the closest to applied that I truly enjoy. So many folks think that "fractal" mathematics is a "new" discovery. Heck, it was known forever, it is just not all the tools existed and, well, it's harder to get your head around some of it w/o a graphic expression of the solution space on a screen. A great book for everyone from the layman to the math major is one called "Does God Play Dice (US Edition): The Mathematics of Chaos" by Ian Stewart. It motivated me to follow that branch for most of my college career and a while after until software and networking took over as the income centers.

BTW, nice shot of the casino. Is it me or was that a bit of a difficult shot to get right? The left foreground seems to have a few blown highlights but if you account for those, then you lose the rest of the shot to shadows.

You betcha!! never hurts to cross all the i's and dot all the t's...sooooo, how ya coming on proving good old Fermat's Theorem? You know when you mentioned that the other day or week or whatever, it almost motivated me to go and drag out all my notes and reference from my Abstract Algebra and the like courses. Then I got better and took a nap. :D

Most welcome and thanks for posting it. Nothing wrong with a bit of PP, we used to call that a darkroom...hehehe...still, it's fun when ya pretty much nail the shot/exposure/focus all in camera. :D

It has been so long since I shot in B&W on purpose, it reminds me I should do it more often just for something different. Then again I really need to just spend more time outside with a camera. Been one of those years. ;)

Jabba:

that is very appealing for some reason. Have you played around with any color versions? To me that is "wall worthy"...but if you ask me why, I don't think I could explain it...maybe because of the simplicty and sort of tranquil sense I feel looking at it...nicely done!

What is that MI-5's home offices? ;) Beautiful shot and as clean as one could hope. The reflections of the window trim in the glass creates a really neat effect. And the microwave tower in the background adds to that cloak 'n dagger perception I get from the shot.

My 35ltd has easily become the standard which I will gauge all other macro as well as other lenses I use for product shots. Just yesterday I needed to add a shot to show the condition of a piece. My 35ltd did not let me down in the slightest. In fact I was truly surprised at the detail level and resolution in this shot.

K20D, 35ltd, 1/100th, f/4.5, ISO100, Off Camera Wireless Flash Fired at 1/32nd (Lumiquest SB)
Gallery for the above where you can compare the 24-60 vs. 35ltd on the same item.

You can compare with shots I took earlier in the year with my Sigma 24-60mm. And it was probably my fav zoom ever. But it was for my 40D so it's long gone. The 35ltd has more than filled it's shoes where I needed it most and that is product shots. Better quality photos leads to a lot higher price from customers. In fact last month the lens paid for itself on three sales alone where I averages $220 over the normal selling price for some designer jewelry pieces.

Not ideal exposures but I wanted more of a high-key look yet with detail. And this leetle beastie delivered.
Whole Gallery here: BreckLundin's Place : Jewelry (items already sold)

I know these is not an artistic or sexy shot but are rather, utilitarian. My lenses need to pay the bills. But I am really fussy about showing customers the bare details, warts and all, of items. Because of this is why I decided to give the 35ltd a chance when I bought into Pentax last this past July.

Just really happy with the results so far.
