It's your choice. One French review and one Youtuber claiming one thing, versus one British review and few owners being impressed with the lens. Though Sandy Hancock used it with a K-3, so it doesn't really count if we talk about FF corners.
Tony's claim is also a personal statement, and nothing more than that. Except that he seems to want his brand "win" ;)

And I will repeat my words: "a valid gripe, of course".
I'm just putting things into perspective, if we compare the K-1 with similarly priced DSLRs it doesn't looks to me that it's at any disadvantage - coverage wise. ;) But improvements are always welcome.
The crop is a convenience function, you can do it in post (well, APS-C crop doubles as a "turbo" mode with its faster fps).

Of course it is; though I don't think it's an incorrect one. He did this to reiterate his points and to counterattack those disagreeing (and, unfortunately, sometimes attacking) him.
And it's funny how the comments on the new Youtube video are attacking us, because, well, we're bad people...
By the way, I still don't believe his assertion ("supported" by some French test) that the D FA* 70-200 f/2.8 is too lousy to be compared with the OEM Canikons. I can't, when people with good reputation say things like "I am mightily impressed with this lens" ;) ---------- Post added 28-06-16 at 01:38 PM ----------
Such a debate is indeed off-topic, as neither camera is a K-1 ;)
I will gladly accept your invitation, not for making comparisons (though of course I'm always curious about other systems) but for having fun and challenging myself with some birding. The K-1 is good enough to catch swallows in flight (as MightlyMike shows on the other forum), but how good am I?

Hmm... Tony is basically excusing his sloppiness and defend his claims. He's even purposely selecting the worst comments to, erm, comment on. Nothing to see there...

Very few Pentaxians have fast focusing lenses (and that shouldn't be measured as end-to-end travel with the lens cap on, but as fast, precise locking on target. The old screw drive system will not cope with that if it needs microcorrections). Even fewer Romanians have such lenses, even though at least one D FA* 70-200 was sold here (and a few of those modified Tamrons).
So it's a DA* 300mm f/4, with it's inadequate SDM micromotor, at best.

The first image is nothing special, strictly from an AF point of view. The second one is more challenging, but then my experience is with the K-5IIs and its older SAFOX X.
Bot now I have a K-1, and perhaps if Dan and creizi will accept we could go together and hone our birding skills.

Perhaps they didn't order any, which would explain their inability to sell ;)

I had a K-S1 in my own hands, and I disagree.
Its grip is not deep enough to work with larger lenses; but with a smaller lens it's OK. I'd say it's better than entry level Canikons, and better than those way-too-small MILCs.

I don't think they are - they bashed some Pentax cameras pretty badly (e.g. the K-S1).

The K-1 has a much better/advanced AF than the K-S2's SAFOX XI. Don't assume his videos are accurate... they're often not (remember when he got angry at camera manufacturers for not lying about the focal length inscribed on the lenses?)

Jared Polin was dismissive of Pentax. He would do the same with the K-1, I have no reason to believe otherwise. ---------- Post added 24-06-16 at 06:45 PM ----------
By the way, do you really think such a review would make the K-1 "sell like crazy"? Ricoh can't supply for the actual demand.

That's incorrect; the K-1 has the newly developed SAFOX 12 modules. It's using the same sensor as K-3's SAFOX XI, but with completely revised optics (the optical path is longer, they added a mirror for that).
In effect, "its autofocus area is approximately 40 percent wider than a conventional AF frame" (and there are 6 more AF points, and who knows what other effects not immediately seen in the specs list).
You can clearly see how it covers the APS-C frame better than the K-3:
OTOH, the only FF DSLR covering most of the crop frame is, AFAIK, the D5. The 1DxMkII should be comparable, but it doesn't support EF-S lenses.

A valid gripe, of course.
The K-1 should be clearly better than the D610, perhaps equal with the D750 and with slightly less coverage than the D810. That, if we count non-cross type AF points, too. Otherwise, even the D810 has a mere 15 AF points covering just the center ;)
But DSLR makers should improve on this, if they want to stay competitive.
Perhaps a future model will have significantly better AF coverage, as we see Ricoh/Pentax are thinking of solutions. For the first DSLR - one that offers a lot for less than 2000 euro, and had to be postponed a few months - it would've been too much.

Are you saying the D FA* 70-200mm is clearly behind the Canon 70-200 IS II because the FA 50mm f/1.4 obtains a lower resolution score than a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 - on different cameras? No offense, but what kind of logic is that?

In principle, yes, he is correct - one has to study Pentax' lens offering to see if everything needed is there. Well, one could also take the risk of not knowing exactly how the lenses on the roadmap will turn out to be, and when.
However, if you do it, do it fairly. There are several mistakes in that video - the Rokinons, ignoring anything but the current range of Pentax lenses, comparing the Pentax 70-200 with the Tamron. It's easier for us who know the Pentax system.
About the later, Tony N. is convinced its optical performance is behind that of the Canon's, which doesn't fit at all with Ephotozine's glowing review.

He's using Silkypix Developer Studio Pro 7 (see the title bar). I think Silkypix, while nowhere near as bad as Adobe, is not as good coping with artifacts as DCU; but I've only done a few tests using images provided by various sites.
