Are those 11mm, or 15mm if we stick with the D FA?

Your choice is your choice (FTR I also didn't get the 15-30, yep, mainly because of its size). But you cannot replace a 11-18, nor a 15-30 with a 20 and a 28mm prime.

You cannot prove that SLR ultra wide-angle lenses can be small by mentioning mirrorless/rangefinder lenses.
But even in your unfair conditions, I've shown you how the previous generation of a similar lens is smaller. So? Should we continue? :)

Uhh... the Voigtlander/Cosina Heliar 15mm f/4.5?
Voigtlander Super Wide-Heliar 15mm f/4.5 Aspherical II BA212M

And do you have no issue introducing mirrorless lenses in a discussion about SLR lenses? When it's about ultra wide angle?

The thread subject is the DA* 11-18mm though. Sorry for momentarily believing we're discussing it.

That is a mirrorless lens. And quite large, I'd say.

A 31mm is quite different from a 11mm lens; and 2 31mm would weight about 700g. You're talking about 20mm and 28mm lenses just to be unfair... but add a 11mm f/2.8 prime to the 31mm and you'll surpass whatever this DA* weights.

What I mean is that things changed since the film days, and Pentax must adapt (or perish). If you want to stay in the '90s, you can use the existing options (with some effort of finding lenses on the second hand market).

Sorry, I cannot trust your unknown-to-me insider who told you I don't know what; and then there might be your interpretation adding details on the way. And a communication barrier.
Even if there was such a plan - it sounds like a continuation of the Pentax Corporation strategy started with the K10D and the DA* + DA Limited lenses - there's no way Ricoh could've killed it in 2010, as you claim. If it happened, it was Hoya.

It was obvious the K-1 would have a screw drive motor.

---------- Post added 30-10-17 at 10:19 AM ----------

How could Ricoh force their plans, before buying Pentax?
I don't buy it. And you're not even mentioning a source.

Do you know this, or it's only supposition?
I'd say the latter, as Ricoh took control in October 2011 - and any sort of strategy wasn't probably formulated until 2012.

And by the way... "these lenses will become the first two models of the new-generation Star series. While retaining existing design concepts, the series underwent a drastic review of in-house standards, especially on resolving power." - doesn't look like an old design.

How about Nikon introducing incompatible cameras after their first electronic aperture F-mount lenses?
I'm still a K-5IIs owner (which now sits unused). But I'd rather have them work on the current cameras, than on a refresh of a model launched in 2010.

I remember some claims about the K-1 not having an in-body AF motor, a while back. IRL, though, Pentax keeps the AF motor even in their cheapest cameras.
I'd say we are safe for a while ;)

As for the cameras, every DSLR they introduced since 2013 (inclusive) are KAF4 compatible. This isn't bad at all.

You're insisting way too much with this nonsense. I won't put Snappertim on the ignore list for now, but I'll put you.
Aaand... you're gone. And it's over (sorry, Mike, should've done that from the beginning).

No, you're not OK with people sharing their opinions, you've just attacked normhead.
And pretending that blatantly false claims are "opinion" which still have to be proved or disproved is misinformation.

I could avoid this kind of discussion by avoiding Pentaxforums. I won't do that; this is my "home" as a Pentaxian.

I keep noticing how you're trying to hold me at very different standards than people like Snappertim - while I must be absolutely(!) sure, he can say blatantly false claims with impunity. Repeatedly.

By the way, one very important reason why I reported his post - hoping it would be deleted - was to avoid this kind of discussions. You can be certain that someone would get upset at people trying to correct misinformation.

I will repeat: this is not a matter of disagreement, but deliberate disinformation.

Treating lies like just another opinion (as if the location and ownership of Pentax' lens factory is up to debate...) is disinformation in itself. I might be often guilty of bluntness, but disinformation is something I just don't do - nor tolerate.
YMMV.

But I don't think he is mistaken, nor is this a matter of disagreement; I know what he said is not true.

The Pentax forum and Pentax comments sections on DPReview has been wrecked by people bashing Pentax. They're having a fit right now, obviously unhappy with Pentax daring to announce the DA* and D FA*.

Wait, what? Are you serious?
Nobody reported him because he annoys us; but because he wrote this:
HD Pentax-DA★ 11-18mm f/2.8 - Page 18 - PentaxForums.com

And it's up to the mods to decide on an action - delete the post, warn the user, talk with the user, do nothing... nobody's asking for a public execution. If that's his way of joking... someone must tell him that it doesn't work.

You cannot find truth in lies.
You didn't find truth in lies. What do you mean, to "run down"? Replaced, perhaps, but that's just the normal product lifecycle. You don't know anything about "more coop development". And, Pentax had their Vietnam (not Philippines! - that's where they make the cameras) lens factory since before Hoya.

There's a report button, let's use it. Even if it is intended as sarcasm (how would we know?) it's over the top.
By the way, can anyone pinpoint the Ricoh Imaging's Pentax lens factory on Google Maps?

Yeah. Let's do our best to make people believe this new ring-type ultrasonic motor is the exact same component as the initial micromotors used in the 16-50. A decade ago.

They don't care about such negative comments, actually they're aware they can't stop them. If it's not SDM, those people would find something else.
What I mean is they weren't ready to tell us about the (new) SDM motor. Maybe because the motor weren't ready, maybe because they were saving it for another occasion.
