I just checked... the tiny GR III has an average SD card write speed in excess of 60MB/sec.

edri, you're going at this in the wrong way.
You're one of us, I have no doubt about that. My guess is that you're concerned about a "second SDM", a "second aperture mechanism". The thing is, you cannot stop defects from happening - even less so minor plays in controls which don't affect the functionality.
The thing is, Ricoh properly handles this minor issue; they published a list of possibly affected serial numbers, and will repair the cameras for free.
We should not punish them for doing the right thing.

There's no product without any kind of problem.

Let's not go personal ;)
It is an exaggeration - an issue which doesn't affect functionality, and which is properly handled by the manufacturer - but no more than that. I would say the products quality improved; but let's be realistic, it cannot be perfect at any price.

I wouldn't use Java.
We'll find out if it's a full fledged Android when the camera takes 5 minutes to start. ;)

Have you read that claim in my posts? No? They, I'm not saying that.
But you were saying that UHS-II means a better battery life, with a bogus theory about images being held in RAM. I'm sorry, but we can't go guessing here, we can't use intuition as it doesn't work.
I have the K-1 (now upgraded to the K-1 II), too; you don't have to explain me its (lack of) speed. It's not capable of using the full (SDR-104) UHS-I speed, by the way.
Making up theories about how UHS-II would solve this or that is unneeded and even counter-productive; we don't have to look for any excuse other than increasing the write speed.
I'd be happy if the next model will have at least SDR-104 UHS-I, even if that means a further decline in battery life.

The K-1 II got a decrease in shots per charge from 760 to 670, the difference being the accelerator unit.

I remember someone said the GR III battery is also used by Theta.

Of course they are assumptions; I'm a software engineer, I know to recognize one ;)
And this particular one is a wild, "what are you smoking?" type - there are so many differences between the Pentax and the Nikons I can't fathom how on Earth did you isolate the SD bus as the culprit. Actually, I know you didn't.

The first rule about performance: whatever you're assuming is most likely wrong.
You don't assume performance; you measure it, in controlled conditions. Making assumptions about UHS-II is just that.
Making assumptions about images "sitting in the buffer" is worse. Yes, there can be an impact but not what you think - for example, longer processing times might prevent the processor(s) to enter advanced sleep modes. This has to be known, or measured.

Of course, I'd like to have in-camera GPS, too.
It's not a deal breaker - I could track location using the smartphone and sync the data, but this is more cumbersome.

One thing I don't quite like - the lack of GPS.
Less useful for a street camera, because of poor reception between buildings I guess.
