The Df is over priced. But compared to the lens investment I have, it doesn't mean much. Now if you wanted to capture some fast, spontaneous action with that A7r, how much extra would you pay to upgrade its rather average AF system? I'd think a faster focusing system gets more use everyday than a top end of 1/8000 shutter. I take it you do a lot of 1/8000 pictures because you harp on it all the time. My D800 has yet to shoot a 1/8000 shot. And no video is a feature not a problem! ---------- Post added 04-02-14 at 14:55 ----------
That's the rub. You find film a hassle. While those of us still shooing it do it as a labor of love. And we get the "real film look" too. :)

Rupert, you have to have internet approval of your camera purchase. And if someone doesn't like your choice, you can't get it. :D
On a more serious note, I've been reading you talking about getting the XT1. I say go for it regardless of what anyone else thinks. It has been getting good reviews so I don't see how you could go wrong.

If you already own another FF Nikon, as in my case, it is cheaper than getting a second camera in another brand. The reason I have two cameras is I don't want to always shoot 36MP on my D800.

Yes, I have the 20/2.8D as well. Good bang for your buck lens. I wouldn't hesitate using it on the Df especially for the size.

I have the Zeiss 21/2.8. I don't think Nikon has a prime in that approx focal length to match that.

Here are a few first shots with the new 35/1.8G lens. Checking out its bokeh.
And a night shot I've posted before if you haven't seen it already with the Sigma 35/1.4 lens. I like the Sigma but it is not a comfortable fit on the Df due to its size/weight. Bear that in mind if you are considering this camera. Perhaps if you wait a little longer either the price might come down or you can find a used one by then. |

I have a Df too. And I totally agree that the camera is and feels solid. And I have held lots of solid cameras in my lifetime to make that assessment. I've picked up the 28, 35, 50 and 85mm f1.8 lenses for it. The f1.8 lenses are light and feel really good on the Df.
I even put on a sports lens, the 70-200/2.8 VRII, and gave a try at some action shots with it. It did okay. Here is an example. It nailed all shots in focus in a sequence with its modest 5 fps as they approached. Focus speed is a function of the lens too and of course any Nikon camera with that 70-200 on it will focus faster. |
