Hi all!

m8o's negative clarity style inspired this one...

K20D, DA70 @ f/4.5, 1/6th sec., ISO2200 +1EV comp from matrix program

I've been doing more and more "negative clarity" with CS4, too. Especially on my portraits. I think negative clarity really makes people happier with pictures of themselves! :hmm:

Hi all,

Great shot, Nuutti, of the dog running into the water. I'd like to get one similar to that of my dog, but no luck so far....

Here's a shot of my friends pit mix playing frisbee. I've mentioned that I've had a hard time capturing shots like these in the past, this is my most successful effort yet. She's mid-air, though the perspective makes it look like her back legs might be touching....

It sure is easier when someone else is throwing the frisbee and I can "focus" on the camera.

Hi all! More great pics from everyone.
@Red_R1: Great looking dog!

Here's my latest attempt at catching my dog... Taken after 9pm, well after dusk had past (basically in the dark). Lighting is 40% from the 2 blownout spots, one streetlight to the right slightly out of frame, plus the "beautiful" NYC skyglow. Shot with my trusty DA 10-17, @f/5.6, 30s, ISO 1100. of course I used a tripod. :) and yes, he sat mostly still that whole time.

Holy Cow! (is that the only pet we haven't seen here?) What an awesome set of pet photos!

I've somehow managed to miss this thread for the past 2 months, but I've just spent the past 45 minutes enjoying some outstanding photography from everyone, as I slowly wound my way back to page 13 or so where I had left off!

Here's a snap of my dog Linux standing patiently (not) by the door asking to be let out. You can see in the background that the door is dirty. When I let him out, I leave the door closed but not latched. When he comes back inside, I've trained him to close the door behind himself. It seemed like a good idea at the time, until I realized I had just trained myself to clean the door once a week!

It's also one of my first test shots with my new DA*16-50 (50mm, @2.8):

Thanks again to everyone who's posted here. I've really enjoyed the last 45 min looking at the everyone's shots, and reading the stories behind them!

Hi Workingdog!

Nice shot! How did you capture this? I've been trying to get shots of my dog catching frisbee with varying success. I've used a tripod and cable release, pre-focusing where I (intend) to throw the frisbee... Did you have an accomplice to assist with throwing while you were shooting?

Thanks! :)

m8o is pretty close, it was a pole... ;) The silver vertical pole immediately above the dog ran straight down through the whole image, as it was actually on the near side of the pool. I had to take it out all the way to the bottom of the photo. If you look carefully, it looks a little "escher-esque" because the silver pole is both in front of, and behind the wooden fence.

The only part of the clone job I wasn't really happy with was exactly where m8o identified.

This thread was a great idea. I'm sure am happy to see a "post your picture" thread that has nearly as many views as some of the "speculation" threads!!! ;) The theme encouraged repeated posts, and resulted in a lot of views. Well done, m8o!

Hi all,

Here's one I got of my Labrador from the summer. He's leaping into the water for the 800th time of the day after a tennis ball. Fool that he is, I've found that if I throw the ball just within his jump range, he can't resist trying to make it to the ball in a single leap. Shot with FA50/1.4 @ 1/500th f/4.5. It's not quite, but nearly a 100% crop, along with some considerable cloning. Bonus points for identifying what was cloned out. :)

@m80: I love the shots with your dog and the manuals. I laughed out loud.

Truth be told, I added the fire in post process.
Full story:
1) Turn off fireplace.
2) Use a tripod
3) Take 30+ photos while trying to keep the "front" dog still.
4) Take photo with no dogs, but with fireplace turned back on.
5) clone the fire back on top of the photo with the dogs.

The fireplace is only a gas fireplace, but they're puppies, and I just didn't trust them to not run into the fire.

Merry Merry!

Hi and,

Thanks for the positive feedback on this and the other shot I posted to this thread....

Don't worry, I've got a bunch. :) I'll wait until tomorrow and then put another one up!

I have a feeling these guys will always be adorable. Their mom was 7 lbs, and their dad was only 5 lbs.

Tiny, tiny dogs, even grown up!

Hi m8o, and everyone,

I'm going at more like a rate of "your pet every few weeks....", but here it is, finally.

Here's a shot of one of my mom's 2 new maltese puppies:

Sorry I haven't been contributing to this thread daily. There have been some great posts, and I've really enjoyed all the contributions so far. So much that I can't resist putting one up myself.

Here's a shot I took about a month ago of my Yellow Lab named Linux:

My favorite part about this shot is that he's looking at me, waiting for an "ok" rather than looking at the cookie...

Thanks everyone for their posts.

I'm deathly allergic to cats... I never knew that their eyes were so different from dogs eyes, either!
