An absolutely excellent 1st choice!

Next to my Q7 this is my most used digital Pentax and I love the color rendering of the sensor.

One of the few threads that I truly enjoy catching up on whenever I can. The photos are always beautiful. Thank you all for taking the time to post your wonderful work.

Winter is coming on (snow on the ground yesterday) and I am not interested in developing any color film in my freezing garage for a bit. So the K10D is out on the table again and will substitute nicely for the K1000 for the next few months.

All the talk of Takumars a few pages back has inspired me to hook up my newly acquired Tak 24. Tomorrow, weather permitting, I'll take some time outdoors to see what comes of it.

For some who may not be quite as "adventurous" as Dave seems to be, a very light coating of vaseline on a clear, digital filter can provide a similar effect.

At one point I know that the filter companies built "soft focus" filters in various levels as well. I am pretty sure I still have a couple of 52mm versions from my Minolta days. The point of those filters was to provide a slightly lower contrast and to reduce sharpness to various degrees. They were commonly sold for portrait work.

They were based on the Falcon Station Wagon to be exact. Everything underneath was the exact same pieces as were in the wagon. Nice photo, I had one but it was blue and nowhere near as nice looking!

But it had an 8-track stereo so it was perfect. :D

As dwinnert says, for the type of things that I do I find that the K10D is not limited at all. I own a K5iiS, and it is an awesome camera, buy I am so used to working with the K10D that when I use digital it is usually the first camera I grab. Besides, I love the colors.

I do like your idea of shooting high ISO and then converting to black and white dwinnert. I am going to have to give that a try.

The camera is only as limiting as you want it to be whether it is a K10D or one of the *ist D versions.

If you are seriously into 11x14 or larger, and just don't allow yourself to print smaller, then the K10D may not always provide the file size you need. And almost any file can be enlarged to some degree with today's software.

But, if you are like a lot of us, easily 90% goes no further than the computer screen. Out of the remaining 10%, the great majority are printed at 4x6 or 5x7, which works really well in most photo scrap books. I have printed a few at 5x7 or 8x10 to hang on my wall at home, usually of my family. I print Xmas present prints at this size. Occasionally I will try a print larger than 8x10, usually 13x19.

To be honest, I have one photograph from the K10D that worked well at 13x19. The rest have not gracefully enlarged that far to look good. For me I would have to say that this is the ultimate limit for the K10D file and is a big reason I bought the 645D.

I kind of consider the 13x19 print to be the limit for most APSC sensors. I know that there are those who will happily argue with me about this but even my K5iis, though a very nice camera, struggles with 13x19 prints. The problem with the K5 is that it smooths things out. The file will print that large but they look artificial to my eyes. Since I do prefer the K10D's CCD sensor (I know, silly me since there is no difference) I usually shoot it more often.

So far, since I have not worked much with the 645D yet, my favorite for larger prints remains the simple K10D.

With good technique you can very easily print any K10 file at 8x10. If you are comfortable with post processing technique, getting 11x14 is very possible with most files. If you want to go larger that that then you are best served with the cameras that produced larger files.

As for CCD vs CMOS, I shoot both and like both. There are certainly slight differences between those two technologies but nothing as great as what I get when comparing Fuji Pro400 and Kodak Portra 400 film. For me this is one of those internet forum issues that means very little in reality. But, it is always nice to have choices so enjoy your camera.

If you are really interested in some nice and large prints shoot Kodak Portra in a Pentax 645Nii.

That is EXACTLY why we buy them. :)

...and then we find them again...

And we put them somewhere that we will always know where they are. :D

Flip a coin.

Better yet, set them both on the table and tell her to pick one.

For my 35mm film I use the AF280T and the Vivitar 283 Thyristor flash.

For digital I use the Yongnuo flashes. Terrific value. I actually have 3 of them now, all bought at separate times, and they all work great. I like the fact that they are manual.

Thought I would join in. I picked up a K5 a while back but am now back to using my K10D. I'm probably just being an old fogey buy I just love those K10D colors. Besides, when you get used to the way a camera works it is hard to readjust to something new.

Since XMas is the perfect time to enjoy the great K10D colors I will be posting some results real soon.
