Well...that's the thing. I don't really want to have to have all sorts of different programs, each doing one thing. For PP I'm now using Paintshop Photo Pro x3, and it should open the RAW files but doesn't. I still need to contact Corel on that. That's when I loaded the Pentax software that came with my K20D, just so I could start shooting RAW. I would think that PPL SHOULD open Lisa's Pentax Raw file (.pef) and even do the best job with the processing since it's proprietary software, but it doesn't for me. It does open my RAW files though, so I don't know where the disconnect is coming from. Thanks for the input though.

You were right in that no file extensions (of common types) were being shown, and it took me a little while to figure out how to get them shown as I haven't changed stuff in such a long while. But, to no avail...the latest is just 061.pef and it won't open. I also went to properties to "unlock" it and nothing.

I've downloaded all three attempts for the RAW. None of them had a .pef.tiff extension show up. Right clicking and going to properties lists Type of File: PENTAX RAW file.
I do have the latest version of Pentax Photo Lab AFAIK.

Well, I'm glad others can open it. I still get the same error in PPL: "Failed to display preview" and when I try looking at it, it's just a grey square. Since I've recently just started shooting in RAW, it is likely a problem on my end, but the shots I take, whether dng or pef I can open and process. So...

I too tried a portrait presentation, but didn't like the sun too much, so a hefty crop to place the swirling grass as the foreground and convert it to a landscape. Some selective saturation adjustments to give it a more yellow orange look in the grasses vs the purple tinge. Once resized, the sharpness I felt was suffering, so I looked into some art media effects (brush strokes, etc) but settled on a soft focus instead.

I just re-downloaded it, and though the Pentax photo browser would show the image, I couldn't crop or even use the auto fix, or rotate functions. Did you by chance save it with some sort of write protection? Can that even be done?
I'll try the larger jpg

Lisa,
I can't get the PEF file to open after download in either PPL or Paintshop Photo Pro x3. Needless to say, the PP from a 500+Kb file vs a 17+Mb file will be quite different.
