I use the Katzeye screen and the Pentax magnifying eyecup. I've only had the eyecup a week or two but so far I'm very satisfied with it. The Katzeye is, of course, awesome. Together, these two products allow me to manual focus better than ever.
You know, I much prefer to manual focus most of the time for most of my photos and I've spent a lot of time and money to try to perfect my techniques. After reading a post on the other forum about exercises to manual focus my advice would be this. I don't have the link right now and regretfully I don't remember the guy's name but I'm sure someone here has the link, I'll look after this post. Anyway, before I was always going back and forth trying to get the exact focus which was very time consuming and I usually still missed. In essence this guy says to practice and practice to stop right at the exact moment the image "pops" into focus. Don't hunt back and forth trying to achieve focus but learn to trust your eye and build the muscle memory to stop turning the ring at the exact moment focus is achieved. It has taken me awhile to get where I am and I still don't have a 100% hit rate and most likely never will but I'm much better than I was, for sure.
An example:

Here I wanted the Pine Sisken in the foreground getting a seed in focus but also wanted to cover the other guys head and just about succeeded with the Tak 135/3.5. It was either wide open or one click down, I don't exactly remember. I've had a heck of a time with these birds getting exactly the focus I wanted and this was primarily the reason I bought the magnifying eyecup. I have many attempts on these guys with the DA* 300/4. With just the Katzeye I can achieve focus pretty good but now I want to precisely place the depth of field where I want it, especially shooting wide open. With this picture using the eyecup, I'm optimistic. I haven't had a chance to use the 300 with the eyecup yet. Well, I have but not on these guys.
I'm one of those guys to whom nothing comes easy but on the other hand I don't give up easy. If I have to work and practice at something I want to do better, so be it, I'll work and practice at it. After all, shooting digital is pretty darn cheap after all the hardware (and software) is bought:-).

I took a couple of much needed days off this week to go fishing, camped out Thursday night and got one of my favorite spots which I wouldn't have gotten on a weekend, even this late in the year. I grabbed these shots with my Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 135/3.5. Love this lens.
