I'd say a different background. :) In the absence of good background outdoors, i usually go closer to the person.
You may wanna go lower, and show a little more of the sky instead. That would also make her taller, instead of shorter. Right now it looks like she is sitting on a mini chair - which she may very well be; if thats the case, then I wouldnt have positioned her there, because instead of making the chair looks mini, it makes her look bigger.
Finally, if she is posing for you, i'd ask her to smile :)
Sharp, nice lighting, not bad for a first time!
