This reminds me of my old Mamiya 645 1000s. It used to not fire the flash (using PC cord) regularly and I was convinced it wasn't making a good connection. I wiggled the cord, the connector and anything else I could pretend might have an impact. Eventually I figured it out... when using the camera in portait mode, the prism finder was 'falling' away (very loose fit!) from the body and the contacts between the two were seperating. This was causing it not to fire the flash. Used to cater for it by holding the prism onto the body although I'm not sure of the relationship between the two because if using a WLF I'm sure it's still capable of firing a flash. Eventually bought a Pro TL model but that issue caused me many underexposed frames and a lot of grief (missed shots)!
