That is good news! Except for deliveries it sounds like you live in the kind of place I love but had to give up a few years ago:(

So an extended warranty has no real value there. Maybe I misunderstood his concern.

The standard and probably best answer is that extended warranties are usually a waste of money. Of course, if your equipment fails and you do not have one that is not true. But you have to assess your willingness to accept a small risk. Somewhere I have seen reference to a 7-8% failure rate for most camera brands. I see that, combined with my own experience, as a small risk. Others may view it differently.
