Well put. That seems an excellent strategy in a declining market for a small player. As long as they can sell what they produce within the time frame they calculate it will work.

Sadly you are right about the 70-200 vs the 85 but I really would like to see a new DFA* 85 1.4. those sterling lenses are not just wonderful to shoot but enhance the Pentax reputation.

It is a tough bind for them. Clearly they would please most of us with faster lens releases and probably raise their profits but in a declining camera market they seem determined to minimize risk.

By league I was clearly referring to FF vs crop.

It might be more accurate to compare the price of D FA 70-200 2.8 to the possible price of the f4. That is the league it will be in. Just a smaller, lighter option.

The PLM is crop sensor. the rumored 70200 /4 would be FF. Almost always more expensive.

Your first post seemed clear. I really wish they would make all new lenses KAF4. As someone pointed out, it seems unlikely that k-5ii users would purchase many of the newer lenses. All the new cameras work just fine with the old lenses so it is only the old cameras which are incompatible with the newer lenses.

I am amazed that anyone takes a Tweet from an anonymous Tweeter seriously. To be noted and forgotten. Except for the Pentax Forums raffle there is absolutely no need or value in commenting on a Tweet. If we ignore Twitter maybe it will go away :)

I think he did a retest and discovered a problem with the original test.

But this is the dilemma they face: they can cut purple fringing, etc but at the cost of increased size, weight and cost. Such as the D FA 50 1.4.

No diversion at all. The lenses mentioned are and have been praised for their compactness and quality. They are, of course, not telephoto but they are representative of the pentax tradition. Perhaps I should have spelled it out more clearly but what I was suggesting is that a small, compact telephoto in that tradition is what is needed. Recent telephotos like the 70-200 2.8 and the 150-450 are wonderful lenses but very large and heavy as a result of the pursuit of a new level of image quality at the expense of the tradition of compact quality. There is price for everything, a trade off for every benefit.

Since the emphasis is clearly on ultimate image quality this is unlikely to happen but I think many of us would like at least a partial return to the Pentax tradition of small, compact and high quality lenses like the FA 31, 43 and 77. Of course with modern motor drives.
