Its the photographer and not the camera in most cases.
The folks showing off photos here posted equally good and consistent photos when they were using Pentax APS-C.
Not to diminish anyone's capability here, but you will also notice that most are shallow DOF shots, where the larger format has an advantage.
For macro; landscapes, studio and non-full body shots with shallow DOF, APS-C will often suffice.
The largest downside is size and weight as Darren has brought up.
If you can afford it, then why not.
If its going to cause you quite a bit of pain, then you may want to consider carefully.
If not, a 5D with Takumars may serve to cure that FF craving too.
If you sacrifice buying Pentax stuff for a year, I'm sure you can get one.
