It's been a long time since I had this camera in my hands. What you did in the menu was switch the file recording system to the card. The camera can record Jpegs, RAWS or both. Right now the camera is recording in RAW and that's wh they require conversion.
This is a moment where you should check your manual regarding the 'recording mode' (rec) section. There will be a menu item showing quality level. Your choices will be RAW (what's currently selected) and ***, **,* choices. The setting you want is ***.
Not to sound preachy but it's well worth reading the manual from front to back. You'll be surprised how it will improve your understanding of what the camera can do and how to take better pictures.
