I do like the Sigma 17-35 a lot - it's sharp, has good color and does well wide. I think it's loads better than the kit, particularly wide open. As I've started to build my lens collection though, it really doesn't fit too well. I'm usually going w/ the 12-24 f4, 28-75 f2.8, 55-300 and a fast prime or macro for outdoor adventures or else I'll bring the sigma 18-50 2.8, 50-135 2.8, and a fast prime for my indoor shooting. So basically, it just doesn't fit in the systems I use anymore. But if someone had a need for it in their kit, I'd say it does well and would recommend it for the right price (under $200).

I used this lens quite a bit when I first started using a DSLR and it was a primary lens on my trip to Washington DC. Haven't been using it much lately so it'll find it's way into the marketplace soon.
