I'll fight for your right to an opinion, Tanzer but I do feel this is turning into a pissing contest.
For the record, my opinion is that audio in most cases is more important. Excellent video footage can be spoiled by lousy audio, rarely the other way around.
The OP made his choice already, no need to imply disapproval of it.

Disagreeing that it's a fact, or that it's about cheapness.
I don't see why the form-factor is any different an issue when shooting stills or time-lapse isn't, my high-end consumer camcorder form factor is utterly terrible.
In many cases a DSLR shooting video will be tripod mounted (or rig mounted if you are really keen) just as a IL Video camera would be.
I appreciate that it's your own personal opinion, but I'm convinced it's not everyone's, especially some well known pros and many independent film makers.

Many pros around the globe would totally disagree with that opinion.
Actually, many amateurs too I'd say. Although still an emerging technology, the DLSR form factor and lens interchangeability is a massive advancement and is changing the videography world.
It's a natural and organic progression which while Pentax hasn't quite grasped the importance yet will most definitely not go away.
Approaching photography and videography differently is something you have to do whether you are using the same device or picking up another one.

I have to come to the defense of the 3MOS Panasonic camcorder because I have the model before the 900 series (700) which is physically identical.
I know what you mean about the colours and the sky. But, that's very likely because you didn't use custom white balance and probably not a video hood.
I do and the colours are absolutely spot on. Yes, the dynamic range is limited, but so too is the K-01 and K-50 video, it really is.
Yes, the DoF is massive, but with a 12x Optical zoom you can get shallow DoF the same way you do with a Pentax zoom lens.
I also have manual control with the HDC-HS700.
In my view, used thoughtfully, the HD 700 is an excellent camcorder.

Well we have SONY sensors in our Pentax DSLRs.. Sadly the P/R engineers haven't made the best of them for video.

More likely your PC or the player used to view the file. K-3 won't be any different. The suggestion to upgrade to the K-3 is based on the dealer's sales figures and profit margin.
I have the K-50 and 24fps is fine, but it's at the borderline of what the human eye/brain can detect as 'smooth' frame-to-frame transition.

As has been mentioned before. MovieSR isn't useful for moving around/walking while held in hand - it's impossible for software to emulate SR hardware/gimbal type stabilization which stabilizes before the light hits the sensor... MovieSR [I think] is simply there for hand-holding while keeping as still as possible while the scene moves in front of you. Slow panning is also possible without MovieSR spoiling things 'too' much.
As some of you already know, I bought a 17-70mm Sigma Optically Stablized lens which totally solves the problem when I use the K-01 or K-50 for hand held video clips.
It's a shame this is necessary but at the same time it's my only HSM lens so I also get very quiet AF :)

Tell me, how does Movie SR result in higher resolution?
By short shutter speeds do you mean faster or slower? I don't think 'short' is a term that works for speed.
I'm still interested in your comment about using Pentax lenses on the NX1.

Aside from the much poorer build quality of Canons, the video IQ is much the same. IOW: If you are happy to use a consumer level Canon DSLR then stick with the the K-500. The K-S2 isn't any better for video with the exception that it has the vari-angle screen and a mic input..

Yeh, but since the OP revealed his budget I changed my mind about the GH-4 and suggested the GX-7 instead which for his purposes (not yours :P) I reckon would be perfect (even has a good EVF). The A7s will be even further out of his reach!!

Terrible aliasing, shocking moire, line-skipping causes 'stepping' on straight edges that are no horizontal, no HDMI live feed out, no mic input on K-50/500, no mechanical SR for hand held footage unless you buy an OS lens, poor (low bitrate) codec, post editing destroys IQ, poor dynamic range..
At best Pentax video is fine for shallow depth of field work, close ups of family, pets and so on but is rubbish for landscapes and massive depth of field.
Plenty of examples on YouTube/Vimeo.
Pentax are well known for being the last choice in video.

Depending on your budget and how much you stand to get paid (and the prospect of future work coming from doing a great job) Consider buying a GH4.
Pentax are not good enough for paid videography work.
Ed of PhotoUniverse is dropping Pentax in favour of Canon for Wedding video work.
