Good grief.
Now a E-M5 has a better sensor than a K-5. I've seen and heard it all now.
By the way, I'm not at all wrong on my comments, which is why (for once) you aren't bothering to dispute them. Though I wouldn't be surprised if you came back with "technically FF-capable lenses are not specific to APS-C, only the mount, so they don't count".
I'm joining Jonathan Mac and leaving this thread.

So to surmise for anyone skipping through to the end of the thread...
- The E-M5 sensor is very good indeed
- The K-x sensor is just as good, and that camera has been available for 3 years
- AF lens choices for the K-x are more plentiful
- If you want to manual focus, the E-M5 has even more lenses that will work on it
- Some people prefer no grip and EVF, some prefer grip and OVF
- If you want F4 FF equivalent DOF zooms on M43, be prepared to pay... even the only 5.6 DOF equivalent standard zoom costs $1,100.
- APS-C (be it Canon/Nikon/Sony/Pentax) gives you an upgrade path to what anyone born before 1980 is used to: 35mm. M43 is a cul-de-sac (albeit one with certainly good-enough IQ).
- The E-PL2 sensor scores the same as the 2003 Canon 300D. Not particularly relevant in a 2012 DXO performance thread.

In fairness, it's the non-Pentax cameras section of the Pentax Forums. If I were looking for a discussion of the E-M5 with no mention of Pentax, I'd probably go to an Olympus forum.
It is only natural that people on these forums compare cameras to Pentaxes, as that is the majority of visitors here are familiar with.

You are wrong. My prices were both NEW.
I'm comparing like-with-like performance. Please advise if there are any other, cheaper, non-WR 2.8 standard zoom lenses available for M43? What? None? OK then.
I'm comparing like-with-like regarding DXO mark scores, as per the title of this thread that you started. Please advise if there are any other, cheaper, M43 cameras available with a comparable DXO score? What? None? OK then. (Yes, I know the E-PM2 is likely to perform the same, but it hasn't yet been tested).

There is a definite advantage in performance and cost.
Take a typical everyday-type configuration for an enthusiast of a body with a fast zoom. My K-x with my Tamron 17-50/2.8 cost a grand total of US$700 combined. The Oly OM-D and the Panny 12-35/2.8 are US$2100.
So in M43 land you pay thrice the price for similar performance and less DOF control. And the K-x/Tammy pairing would have given 2.5 years of photos while waiting for the Oly/Panny set to even become available.
Also, APS-C allows us to use FF lenses (with autofocus when applicable), and someday there will be the upgrade path to use those lenses on a FF body. With M43 there is no upgrade path.

Since this thread has come full circle back to size, I looked up the OM-D and compared it to the K-x on Camerasize.com... the OM-D is a whopping 1.5mm narrower and 1.9mm shorter.
Sure, it's about an inch thinner, but that comes at the expense of a good hand grip.
So, 3 years on, you can get a similarly sized camera with one stop less DOF control for twice the price. Oh, and it has less choice in lenses and they are generally more expensive.

By your logic M4/3 is also a pointless format, as it doesn't offer a 1 stop advantage over the sensor in the Sony RX100.
That also fits in neatly with my future camera ownership wishes... "my" (actually wife's) existing RX100 (and whatever comes after it) and a K-5-sized FF. Everything in-between can be forgotten about.
Edit: "Everything in-between can be forgotten about by me." I wouldn't presume to say that everything in-between is without merit, it is just superfluous to my particular wants.

So it performs almost as well as my 3 year old K-x?
I'd say the advantages of going one stop up in sensor size is what's most obvious.
I am pleased for Olympus though. It's a neat little camera.
