I am impressed to see this thread still going strong after so many years! I never expected it to last so long when I started it.

I have stopped visiting this forum in 2013 and I just decided to drop back again and see how things are going.

So, as my first post after a long break, I'd like to say:

Thank you to everyone that has contributed to this thread over the time! May you keep taking great images with your MFT equipment!

Back in 2013, there were lots of users that felt that the MFT format was rather pointless and were predicting its imminent death. Hence, it's really nice to see that all of you have proven them wrong through your continuous sharing of your MFT work. My own contributions are no longer available, because they were hosted on flickr, which I quit after the smugmug acquisition. I now share some images on ipernity, going chronologically through my output. I finished uploading my Pentax selections, but only started uploading Olympus samples. Here's one of the latter shots, which I may have posted here somewhere at the time (it's from 2012):

(Not sure why the image didn't get embedded - I used the IMG tags)

This is a rather special shot for me, because it reminds me of the first time I was able to use a Soviet rangefinder lens on a digital camera.

Cheers!

Yes, or a 400mm on APS-C. It is *very* compact - I reviewed it here, btw.

I don't remember, but the price right now at Adorama and B&H is $299, so it was probably that:

Just noticed that Voigtlander has another f/0.95 planned for release this summer: a 42.5/0.95.

E-PL2. It has an actually useful integrated flash that you can tilt with a finger for bouncing the light.

Yes, it's a nice lens. I have the black version - I just never saw the silver one until now. Looks much nicer than the black one. Good purchase! :)

The answer will depend on who you ask. Try the K5 forum and they'll issue you a certificate and perhaps even collect money for treatment. ;)

I am now only interested in MFT lenses and bodies and I will want to try a FF MILC when options appear - I just have too many 35mm legacy lenses not to try them on the proper format. I regret the APC-C lenses I got, but at least I don't have many: just the DA15 and the Tamron 17-50 - these can keep on living on the Pentax bodies.

Are you happy with how your C mount lenses work on the E-PL1? If not, then try the Q - C mount lenses should do a better job of covering its sensor.

FWIW, I reviewed the E-PL2 here.

Yes, they are the only Nokton lenses so far. Those shots are taken at f/2, but I have wide open shots in my flickr stream. I also reviewed both lenses on my blog, if you want more impressions on each (see signature link).

Nice to finally see some images from this lens. How do you like it and have you had a chance to compare it with the 14-42?

The Q is ideal for C mount lenses if you want to get rid of the vignetting and use them as serious alternatives to native lenses. It's really the only choice today for C mount lens use. Even the Nikon 1 sensor is too large for most C mount lenses.

I have the Samyang 8/3.5 SLR version as well. I compared it a bit with the 10-17@10 and they seemed equally sharp with the Samyang having a bit of an edge in terms of CA. OTOH, this MFT version is much sharper, has even less CA, focuses closer and is tiny too - it's well worth getting one if you like fisheyes and have an MFT camera - don't let having a fisheye deter you from getting this gem.

Yes, most of the focus ring throw is for adjusting focus at distances under 1.5m. Setting it just shy of the infinity setting will be fine for any scenario where you are not very close to your subject.

They are a great combo, aren't they?

I liked the 17.5 for long exposures at night:

I used the Michael lens a bit:

The problem is that they don't cover the sensor - I think the Q is the best camera for using C mount lenses - on anything else you'll have to deal with vignetting and edge softness. It gets a bit better when stopping down, but there is not much point to it.

Great questions, however, I am a manual focus user and I don't use AF for anything - I just checked that it works after I unpacked the camera. I played a bit with it using the Panasonic 14/2.5 lens and it looked fast and precise. I also liked the touch screen as an interface for selecting the focusing point - I think that is one of the great features of the E-M5 - for manual focus it helps me in two ways: I can select the area to zoom in and I can take a shot without pressing the shutter, which helps avoid vibration. After I ensured that the AF works, I removed the AF lens and I strapped on the manual ones that I had ordered with the camera ;) So I cannot really comment on the performance of the AF in extreme scenarios, but I did read some comments and it sounded like AF-C works best if you set the image mode to vivid - a tip to remember if you try the camera.

I haven't used the flash - I didn't even fire it once to check if it actually works. It's an add on, similar to what the E-PL3 came with, but a bit different in shape. It looks as useful as a built-in flash on a DSLR, which is to say - not very useful. I much preferred the built in flash of the E-PL2 which I could tilt up, to bounce its light. The E-M5 add-on gets raised a bit like a DSLR flash that pops and that's it - I would only use it as a fill flash on bright days. I keep it in the camera bag, but I doubt I'll mount it often.

I am tempted by the X-E1, but I am now thinking I should wait one more year and see if someone will finally produce a FF MILC. I have tons of FF lenses and only 3 APS-C lenses, 2 of which are the kit zooms.
