Many PF members suggested the DA18-135mm, a WR lens that would fit nicely the rainfall pattern at Tamborine Mountain (1400 mm annual rainfall for last 6 years).

However you seem committed for the Sigma. Go for it, it is a great lens and you should not be disappointed. Just use TLC (tender, love & care) with your lens.

You already received some good advice. Let me suggest a different take. Do you want an all-around zoom lens, or a kit lens 18-55mm replacement by a better lens?

If you want a focal length like a kit lens (18-55mm), the 17-70mm lenses are good options. Both Tamron and Sigma have good offer: see the comparative in-depth reviews at : Pentax 17-70mm Lens Comparison Review - Introduction | PentaxForums.com Reviews &DA* 16-50mm vs. Sigma and Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 Comparison Review - Introduction | PentaxForums.com Reviews. In my opinion, the DA16-85mm is a bit to heavy, albeit it gives you a broader range of focal length.

If you need an all-around lens, the DA18-135mm WR is a great choice: Pentax-DA 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 Review - Introduction | PentaxForums.com Reviews. Like all all-around zoom lenses, it cannot and should not be compared with prime lenses. But it is a great lens: small, compact, light, WR with decent IQ.

Hope that the comment will assist.
