This critter will have undergone metamorphisis and started an app. 1100 mile
journey to some oyamel fir trees in mexico. We regularly see tagged monarchs here
from northwestern new york state as they pass through. Those, travel about

When I first started working a piece of ground here, seventeen years ago.
Never had to deal with kentucky corn borers until six years ago.Yearly ritual now,
amazing how fast some moths propigate and spread.(not a corn borer BTW,Albert)
A filmshot through some old pentax stuff last week.

See the "ant" in that critter now that you've decribed it Noel, thats fasinating.
Like your shot too Dave.Grew up watching all those disney nature shorts.
"Natures half acre" being favorite, lot of the earlier stuff was B/W, kinda
reminiscent of those.Been shooting mostly film lately(process this weekend)
had to dig this out of archives from a couple weeks ago.
Different angle on arboreal orb weaver.

Have a little plot of ground I farm here, met with state agri. rep. to go over some things.
Talking about orb weavers vs. garden spiders one difference is related to web.
Here, true orb weaver builds new web daily, destroys(eats) old just before sun-up,
starts new in evening.Garden variety builds one, will build another if something like
enviromental damage occurs and requires re-building.Sounds like taxonomic classification varies widely, through out world.

Fantastic pic Yeatz, rarely see them here.

This thing spins new web daily here, trying to "dial in" coffee filters to get it all in focus.
Never realized some spiders have 'eyes' on their butt.

Been trying somewhat same on K20, MD. Hard to answer, seems when in Av,with an "A" series lens,
thumbwheel/menu adjustments are there.Using "M" series (without)
lens info contacts,it seems like there no adjustment in-spite menu/thumbwheel options.
Also contray to what camera manual says.Been playing around with an old AF200s on K20.
Rubber-banded two coffee filters over lamp for diffuser and used aluminum foil to
bounce light back into photo eye for as short an impulse as possible,on that manual flash.
This is what I got with a ciccada this moring, with that setup.Still harsh and hard
looking.Bouncing and automation give best results.Moving remote flash off of body
to side-light and increase contrast probably help a little too.
Had old tamron zoom with de-glazed 2x TC for app. 25mm extension tube on this,
using AF200s.(Sunlight is 'magic elixar')
