Yeah, Pentax's upper level dslr series is generally quite heavy. Probably because they actually build them out of materials with similar robustness to a FF camera :)
[edit] I think it's the lenses you're really going to have to watch out for.

Bravo! I thought I was looking at the cinders of a few palms in the first photo before I realized what it actually was!

Although I do vividly remember the Lost Pond trail. I stopped to eat at Pinkham Notch that morning and then crossed the highway back into the woods, where the trail rapidly turned into a waterlogged mess of submerged puncheons. Does the AT diverge before it gets to this waterfall?

Sadly I have no clear recollection of this river. I hiked from Osgood to Carter Notch Hut on my birthday in miserable weather (the Wildcats were no fun in it), and was made to scrub a wall for an hour before they'd let me stay the night! And then mice who can only be described with adjectives too explicit for Pentaxforums broke into my food bag and ate my trail mix :(
I do however remember absolutely beautiful falls on the day I went up to the Kinsmans. The ascent was amazing, following Eliza Brook or one of its tributaries up the cascades and alongside the deep emerald pools you describe. Sadly time was pressing and the light was bad enough to necessitate setting up my gorilla pod, so I never quite snapped any photos that day. Real shame.
If you're a waterfall aficionado I do certainly recommend some time in Maine's 100-mile wilderness. At first I thought this might be one of the waterfalls I camped next to there.

JT this photo belong on a college admissions website :)
I also love the photo of the waterfall -- the water is well captured and framed, makes you wonder where it plummets down to, especially with all the beautiful fall foliage on the left side of the image. I'm not a huge fan of the border, specifically I think the frame shouldn't be blurred until the outside of the solid thin line, as it sort of confuses my attention. Where was the photo taken? It definitely screams New England river ford to my hiker eyes. :)
