Serious compliment coming from you Travis!! I'd be lying if I didn't say I was using your shots this year as a benchmark for my own progression. I got a late start this year since the eagles didn't come back to where I saw them last year and I had to go further to find mine. Good in flight shots eluded me, I always seemed to be too far away or as silly as it sounds too close. What I could have done with a Sigma 300-800mm f5.6 (sigh). Thanks again!!

Excellent, I saw one here for the first time this year a few weeks ago. I hope I can book some shoots with a couple of these families.

This is one of my favorite little birds. Lucky that it stayed there long enough for the shot, they usually take off quick!

I thought I would share these here as well as the over 300 club
These two are the same bird, it just flew to a different branch for the second one.
These two Harrier Hawks were a real treat but man do they have and erratic flight pattern looking for food over a field. It was hard to track handheld. A good picture of a Harrier has eluded me for a long time so I was happy to get these.
And then two more that are a little more normal. These finches(I think) were in one of the trees I ended up next to so I shot them real quick but it was so cold out that I couldn't justify staying since they weren't meat eaters. |

Thanks for the message! When I started the thread I was young enough(measured by post counts) to not really have put that much thought into which camera brands were allowed as evidenced by the fact that I was still using my album space here to host my photos and those links no longer work. So I would say, not that I carry any authority, let it ride! A picture is a picture and these ones are supposed to be about wild animals so as long as that criteria is met I'm not going to get upset:)
On the other hand I was thinking of starting a thread for: "Nocturnal Mammals in the western hemisphere of each continent shot at a focal length of 200mm-400mm below f7.1 with camera bodies that have in-body shake reduction and the crop factor can only be figured in after 1700 hrs" Please come join me in that thread!

I've only seen a few owls in the wild and they always see me first so they don't stick around. I have one picture with two huge yellow eyes behind a big bush that one flew to for cover. Congratulations on getting a great shot!
@borno those are some great photos!!

I saw a little family a month ago, I was not ready and when I started shuffling things around, they started to trot off. I have shots that prove what I saw but nothing worth posting:(

I stumbled upon a watering hole that moose seem to frequent. |

Looks like there is some late afternoon sun there with perhaps a strong yellow cast to it, which I think, would make it look more brown than it really is but than you were there and I was not.

This is a Juvenile Red Tailed Hawk who at the time of the picture as far as I have seen has not left the nest for a real flight.
I would say it is a young Red Shouldered Hawk,
Definately not an Osprey, I've never seen a brown one, they are on the black and white spectrum with the exception of their eyes. |

Looks like a Kestrel to me, some samples below for closer inspection.
That would be a great place to visit, I am envious of some of the places I see photos from here on the forum. I look forward to your shot from the trip in may. |
