I agree. Outstanding photograph, and the calf with its tongue hanging out is a little "icing on the cake". ;-)

We had a Search & Rescue + EMS training exercise today. Captured a couple images of some non-participants ice-fishing on the reservoir. Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) - Pentax K-3 II - It warmed up to zero degrees F when the sun came up. :) Elevation ~7000'

First shot with Tamron 17-50mm - I'm going to REALLY like this lens! (a little fun juxtaposition here --- Finding Dory & Kayaks)
2nd shot ... I needed this for Google Maps (I'm a Google Maps Guide)
3rd's a 100% crop from the traffic/walk light box ...
Works for me. I need to spend some time with it but first impressions are really good!

Tina ...You may already know about this, but here is a browser app that will help you determine the best times for astrophotography (and a lot of other really neat uses) The Photographer's Ephemeris - Web App
I use this app a lot. For example if I am shooting some architecture, this app can tell me what time the sun angle vs my subject is to my liking. It can tell you when the moon will be in a preferred location for a shot or when the sun is going to set at a particular location. etc etc.

Very nice image Michael!
Oh my, I think I'm getting more "lens envy" ;-) Maybe a Christmas present for myself? ---------- Post added 07-05-2016 at 07:58 PM ----------
Looks like you may have captured a satellite in the second image! Very good for first try at stars!

Thank you for the reply. I've looked at the Tammy 17-50mm examples in this group and am very impressed. My primary usage for the lens will be general carry and landscape/architecture. Will have it tomorrow!

Just upgraded my k30 to a K-3 II ... Sold the 18-55mm along with the K30. After MUCH 'homework' I've ordered the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di-II LD Aspherical ... Good move??? ;-)
