An hour at Trestles after an optometrist appointment in Dana Point. Testing my new toric contact lenses. Pentax original Q with 50-300mm, @300mm. It's the beginning of low tide so there's not much going on surf-wise.

Took a trip up the California coast last weekend, stopped in Cambria for coffee and, as I was leaving, saw a sign for the cemetery down the road. Memoriam One by O p t o f o n i k, on Flickr

Over the summer I researched inexpensive rangefinders and shooting film for home processing; found several cameras on eBay (QL17s and Electro 35s) then had them locally CLAed. While waiting for the CLA to be done I ordered the Tri-X, powdered chemicals, Datatainers, and graduated cylinders from B&H and Amazon, stopped by Freestyle for a developing tank. reels, liquid chemicals that can't go through the post, and a test roll of film to practice loading the reels (also picked up some Arista Premium 400). I got to work measuring and mixing chemicals, and brushing up on info about processing. I also checked out some old Aperture books for inspiration; books on Weston, Stieglitz, Lange, HCB, Adams, all my photographer heroes from when I was a kid. Soon enough, one of my Canonets was ready and I went camping to take her out for a spin in the mountains above LA...
Yesterday I developed my first roll of Tri-X in over 30 years.
It's all felt a lot like photography. :) Forest Floor Textures-2.jpg by O p t o f o n i k, on Flickr
Now I just have to work on taking good photographs.
