A couple of days ago this guy came to the house.
He had spiderweb all over him so I helped him get rid of most of it and afterwards he thanked me by climbing around on me exploring I guess :)
I had him jump over onto the glassdoor and managed to get a bunch of shots with my FA-100mm f2.8 Macro + a diffused flash as fill.
The orange background is from lighter objects on the other side of the glass.

Nice!
I have a couple of very similar shots. I like the way the do the mating thingy. Looks to me like theyre trying to break apart instead of getting closer together. Like a tug of war sort of. Heres one. |

Got another dragon the other day.
Like this one from the back. Shot with a Canon FD 200mm Macro on my Pentax K5. Larger versions here.
Heres another angle. He was struggling against the wind but still found time to smile to the camera. Nice guy. He later landed and rested on my shoulder. Strange how trusty they are sometimes. |

Thank you very much! And thanx for the namedropping :) Had no idea what that spider was called :)
The red backdrop is the wall of the house. THat really made that shot I think.
Would be great to know that little bugs (on white) name too if anyone has it?
I have been thinking about finding the names for all the ones I shoot but I seem to forget it all the time :/

Eye only. But maybe I should try catch in focus wit my Canon Fd200mm Macro. I seem to always hit behind using that lens.
Today I only used my FA100 Macro and that one is always spot on.

Ill ask next time I see him. If not he should get paid, maybe not money but food and sex for supporting the research with such devotion!

Both uncropped with only very minor adjustments to Tone in LR + minor noise-reduction and fine sharpening in PS.
Heres another one with faster shutter. |

Nice work!
Spring just arrived so Im waiting for the little ones to wake up.
Want to try my new equipment on them.
Not sure I will find a ladybug just yet. Last summer I didnt see any of them. Quite odd really. They used to be everywere.
How did you get the lady to sit so patiently while you fumbled around with the flashes and what nots?
Was it a very early morning or did you spray it gently with water?

Thank you. I was lucky.
Nice shot you too! :) I love those little guys :)
Been trying to catch them in flight but so far no real success.
Heres one of those shots that has gone thru LR a few to many times...
This season I have a new macro lens + a new flash that should help.
The second pic is a funny looking mini fly I have seen a few times. Its wings are black and white almost like a cows skin.
It sits in a bush that has pinetree needles instead of leaves. Long needles too. I guess wildly on a "Pinetree bush"?
Anyone knows that flys name?
Thank you. Again. I was lucky to get the color mix. That bush/flower is incredibly nice looking if you like those strong colors. Alien like really. |
