Thanks for the kind comments, Matt and Duc, glad you liked them! :)

Marc, great hiking range you have there, mate! Wish I had anything like that close to home...

Thanks Kytra, I kinda expected the comment about the angles, but... I can't help it [:)]

Here are a couple more from the same holiday, no buildings this time, but trees (and...along the same 'twisted' lines):

Did anyone say DA15 has wonderful flare resistance? I guess they were right all along [:D]

Hello again everyone,

I haven't posted any shots lately, but I've been following the thread so maybe it's time I got back in the game... Will run-down buildings be alright? :)

(this last one was through a fence, I wish I could have gotten closer, but...)

PS- hopefully you won't find them too dark

I have to agree with JHD... that is one jaw-dropping shot, Jay!
How many eyes do you have, exactly? :D

Hmmm... I was stunned when I first saw the 'NBA action' shots over at DPR, and now I'm stunned again, looking at them here :) Impressive, to say the least!

Or... it doesn't work at all, if she's using your photo gear as well.
Then again... in such situations, it's rather easy to justify buying new lenses :D

Back on topic: this thread did play a major part in my going for the DA15 (I was torn between it and the 14mm). Can't say I'm disappointed!

Sorry for the poor Italian :) What I was trying to say was:
I have a Hoya Pro1 slim CPL which has a tight fit but it doesn't block the hood, you can still extend it. There might be very slight vignetting at F4 (or maybe it's just light fall-off), but nothing that can't be fixed in PP. By F5.6 - F8, it's gone altogether.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you liked the shots.

Marc, Jay... I see what you mean about using the lens for environmental 'portraits'. Not something I've done in the past, but your photos tend to make me reconsider the subject :)

Thank you!
Unfortunately, Bucharest is not quite an ideal location for architecture (modern or not). I would love to take the lens to Paris though [:)]

I ordered a DA15 and FA77 from BH two weeks ago and paid with a Visa, they didn't ask for such details.
After the import taxes I still saved over 30% of what the lenses cost over here :)

Just thought I'd give an update:

I received a Hoya Pro1 49mm CPL today, the slim variant - while attaching the filter is indeed a bit difficult because of the hood (it's a tight fit), you can still extend the hood with the filter mounted. There is some mild friction between them, but nothing to worry about, IMHO.

Ooook... my copy has arrived, at last! :D
And all I can say is... 'Damn, it's small!' The CZ16-80 I had feels like a monster compared to the DA15, and that wasn't a big lens either.

Looks like a great little piece of glass, really. And with a great build quality, too.
True, it's not sharp in the corners wide open (at least not as sharp as in the center)... but then again, I didn't expect it to be. I'll probably be using it stopped down most of the time, anyway :)

Now... if only that weekend would come sooner, I must take it out for a walk!

Cool, thanks a lot for the report!

I was looking at a Hoya Pro1 CPL, too (and I expect to have the lens stopped down when using it, as well).

Too bad the hood cannot be extended, from the pictures of the lens on Photozone, it looks like the hood would slide out around the frame of the CPL. Oh well, it's not that bad, at least it's only a 49mm filter, and not 72-77 as I had with Sony :)

Ummm.... so... no opinions on vignetting when using a 49mm CPL, eh? :)

Aaargh... I think I'll order that CPL anyway, even if it has problems on the DA15, it could still get some use on FA77 someday...

Yep, same here, only I've placed my order on Monday, hopefully I'll get the lens by next Wednesday.
It's coming together with the FA77, so... it will be Christmas all over again for me :D (I'll see what can be done about the taxes, but even if I end up paying everything, it will still be about EUR150 cheaper than in Romania, so...)

Thanks!
I know what you mean... however I learned to get the best out of a CPL even at 11mm (where the effect you mention is even more pronounced). Of course, 'getting the best' is just IMHO :)
The thing is, after three years of shooting wide and ultrawide with CPLs mounted, it's difficult to go without (I have tried it, but something just didn't feel right).

One thing I forgot: I am also considering the possibility of stacking several filters on the lens (CPL, ND, GND) - not something that would happen too often, but at least a few times a year, for a waterfall, a sunrise or a sunset, something. Should I be looking into getting 55mm filters and step-up ring?

Guys, a quick question:

Could I use a 49mm slim CPL with the DA15? I mean, will I get extreme corner vignetting? (maybe even some sample pics?)

Many thanks in advance!

The reason for asking:
I had a CZ16-80 with Sony and, while it was a terrific lens, it had one drawback: when using a 62mm filter (that's the tread size of the lens), the corners would turn pretty much black at 16mm. Stopping down to F11 or more didn't really help, the vignette wasn't removable in PP, so I had to use a 72mm filter with step-up ring, but this rendered the lens hood useless :(

PS-I did try to find info on vignetting with CPLs in this thread, also in the user reviews, but there wasn't anything mentioned

And here's one more almost-member of the club :D

I ordered a DA15 today, should get it sometime next week. It's my first lens buy (well, together with a FA77), I haven't even received my first Pentax camera yet (K7 on its way).

This thread did play a certain role in deciding between 14 and 15 mm, thank you everyone!
