hi
although there are methods to mark up your images before uploading them anywhere on the Internet, there are no guarantees they cannot be stolen.
however, many professional photographers dealing with the Internet on a daily basis, believe that as long as you don't upload your pix in their original size / resolution and resize them down in both mentioned aspects, then it should be ok since you still have the original and if needed, you can then prove the image is yours.
sounds reasonable enough to me but watermarks, if done properly, are probably still the best way to protect your own rights as the original owner of the picture especially when combined with the resizing method.
