that was 5 years ago!

I think the DA55-300 can focus about 0.1m closer than the Nikon 70-300 assuming the current versions are the same formula as 2010.

Love living in Sydney. Lovely day yesterday.

Swimming in the main waterway between the city and the ocean, 2 weeks out from the start of Winter. :D

Would anyone go swimming in the Husdon(NY), PugetSound(WA), SanFrancisco Bay(CA), Burrard Inlet(BC) or the (UK)Thames estuary in mid-November? Probably not.

I was at a charity fun run a few k's away in the city/park, wearing shorts and t-shirt at 7am.

Thanks for the comments guys. It was a fun day out, well worth it even though I did have to spend over an hour cleaning gear (and me) when I got home at midnight.
Shot about 32 Gigs with 2 bodies in the day so I haven't sorted through everything yet.

The chute is just on the left of the shot. I was in right in the corner of the spectator area, which saw a bit of close up action earlier in morning so I decided to give it a bit of a go.
I was standing, hanging over a 5 ft fence. Shot as a whole sequence until the rider jumped over my left shoulder and just before the bull's rump steaks swung around hitting the fence just on my right.

Here's most of the sequence stitched together.

No score for this ride, he only lasted about 3 seconds.

I should have a few more shots from this event for the DA zoom club later.

Cheers
Steve

I'll go back there in any weather with a pair of Wellies on instead of my new (for me ... moderately expensive) hiking boots.
When it rains a bit it looks like there'd be a waterfall on the right hand side so that'd be pretty cool.
When it rains a lot the whole cutting is 10ft underwater.

Here's another DA18-135WR from earlier the same morning.

2 friendly Cormorants having a chat at the beach.

Just having a look around an abandoned historic railway from the late 1800's near Sydney.

I would've liked to get a bit closer but the whole place flooded a bit over a month ago and was still pretty muddy and boggy. Had to settle for this.

DA 18-135 WR.

Well I suppose you don't have so much spare time for processing so many images because you have to work so many long hours in order to pay for more the trips away. It's a never ending cycle.

I went to Paris once about 6 years ago but didn't get any decent shots as my camera (a Nikon "bridge" thingy) died the week before while on the Thames (not in the water, it had a defective connection SONY sensor).
Was hoping to go back later this year as my brother-in-law is working there (woo hoo, free accommodation) but he phoned yesterday to say he quit and is leaving France ?? (admittedly he is very hard to please)

Ahh ..... that explains the high vantage point which ISN'T from "the Tower up the road a bit".

Great shots Steve.
Are you 'teasing' us with all these images as you gradually process them from 1 big trip, or are you travelling lots.
We're seeing more of France/Europe and the US than from sunny Melbourne from you lately.;)

Paris, (from St Germain) I think.

I've only been there once. The domed building in the centre is the Pantheon if I'm not mistaken. :o

(Well at least that what it looks like in my photos).

Nice shot, very clear.

If you can still see it in AKL, the bright object just to the right and below the moon (about 10 "moon diameters" from it) is Saturn. I've been chasing that puppy around all evening.

Tomorrow night, it should be the left and below the Moon and still quite bright.

Yes just a "small" Casino. Last time I was there was in late '07 and they were still tearing ups the park for the GP circuit pits and the Flyer (wheel) wasnt open. The land was there but I think the Casino hadn't come out of the ground yet, although there were heaps of excavators, cranes and concrete pumps.

Very nicely done.
Funny, I don't remeber that thing on the left of the frame being there the last time I went there

I find the "distorted" tree on the left a little distracting (maybe thats just me) but very good. Best part of the day before the crowds arrive.

Enough flowers, time for something a bit more ... blokey also with the DA55-300

A few from Eastern Creek Race Circuit in Sydney earlier today. Australian GT

It was quite heavily overcast unfortunately, not exactly the best for slowish lens but it did well I thought.
All jpeg straight from the K-7 resized & compressed only.

Mercedes SLS Gullwing (GT3) - first time race outside Europe, this thing sounded awesome! - f4 , 1/1250

As the light faded, I had my first serious go at panning. A few keepers , quite a lot of blurry junk.:o
.

Audi R8 (V10) LMS - f8, 1/40

Porsche 911 GT3 (997 S) - f10 , 1/40

Mercedes SLS Gullwing (GT3) again. Did I mention how awesome it sounds? - getting really dark now f4, 1/30

Edit: I realised I'd left the SR ON the whole day! :o So went back the next day and tried with SR OFF with much more sucess.
