My recent Zeiss 300/4 Tele-tessar did not include a lens cap, and they’re a little hard to come by. Thankfully, some kind soul in Taiwan had one for sale on EBay that I bought in a flash.

I’ve also got a Zeiss 35-70/3.4 vario-sonnar c/y on the way. Stoked to get this one in.

I read through the article right away. Thanks for sharing. As a relatively recent convert from DSLR to mirrorless I appreciate your observations and the trade offs.

Yes, it’s much longer than I’ve ever had before. Usually I shoot with an A7iii, but I just picked up an a6400 and love the extra effective reach it provides with this setup. No complaints. :-)

Congrats on the A7C. I’ve read great things about it, and considering the A7iii spec similarities I have no reason to doubt what I’ve read.

I just got a pair of deliveries last week.

The first was for a Zeiss Mutar II 2x teleconverter for the Contax system to pair with my new (to me) Zeiss 300/4. I’ve never had a telephoto with reach like this before, and mounted on my a6400, I end up with an effective 900mm f 6.3 lens.

Here’s a quick snap of the moon I captured between clouds. It was hazy and the moon was low, so I was shooting through lots of atmosphere. But overall, the image shows the promise of this pair.

Also, I re-added a Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 50/1.4 after selling my old SMC version last year. This one came with a Spotmatic in great shape, though I doubt I’ll use it for anything more than a decoration next to an old Exakta that I’ve got. One disappointment is that the lens has a larger piece of dust or something on one of the lenses inside. I’ll have to disassemble it or send it out to remove the piece since it is visible in the images. That’s a bummer. but otherwise, the lens is in superb condition.

Beautiful! Those old exacta mount Zeiss lenses can be gems. Congrats on it! I had the 58/2 for a while and regret selling it. There’s an old Exakta body sitting on my shelf right now with a 50/2.8 Tessa mounted. I’ve actually never taken a photo with it, but it’s a cool looking piece of photography history,

I’d been wanting the extra reach of a 300mm for some Astro and wildlife shooting and finally decided on the Zeiss 300/4. Here are the first pair of test shots I made. The isolation is outstanding. Both images were shot on a crop sensor for a 450mm effective FL.

I appreciate the kind words. I don’t have a KP, so it’d be hard to make one. 😖

I made a wooden handle from kingwood for my camera cage yesterday based on the dimensions of the SmallRig handle.

While comfortable, it was a little deep, so i figured, ‘why not make another?’ So this afternoon I made a shallower one from lacewood.

I picked up the Voigtlander 12/5.6 FE recently. I had the MKi version, but wanted the improved optics and EXIF data of the FE version. I love this lens.

Just because one can never have enough bags, I replaced my nearly 20 yr old messenger bag with the Peak Design Everyday Messenger 15" V1 today. Looking forward to getting this one in! I've been wanting to add one of their bags for a while, but haven't really had the need. I picked up a Mindshift backpack last year, and have really found it useful for most travel, but the messenger will be nice for more professional settings, and it sure beats carrying around my aged, drooping, beat-up leather messenger.

I’m using them with a mirrorless body, but I think there’s a c/y to PK adapter out there. These lenses are really impressive, and a good value compared to others by Zeiss.

I just added a new Zeiss lens to the mix. The old ones made for the Contax/Yashica mount have been a ton of fun to use. So, I couldn't pass up a good price on a Sonnar 135/2.8 with the original box. Looking forward to testing this one out when it gets in.

It is indeed. We'll see how it renders images, since I have several others that I'd also categorize as 'Bokeh Monsters.' It's good to have options. :)

I just took delivery of a vintage Pentacon 135/2.8. I'd recently been made aware of the lens by a German friend, who highly recommended the earlier version of it. I was fortunate to buy one that looks brand new, with caps and case, and with the 15 blade aperture. Though the weekend was too busy for me to do much shooting with it, I am looking forward to taking it out this week to put it through its paces.

Oh nice! I managed to get a great price on an 11 blade version along with an old Exacta camera. The few test portrait shots I took with busy backgrounds just blew me away with the swirly, smooth bokeh. I think it’ll be a favorite.

I just returned home from a trip in which I spent time with some colleagues who are also passionate photographers. They’re vintage lens enthusiasts as well. Unfortunately, they inspired me to binge research and purchase some new glass. The first deliveries were today, and boy am I happy. One Carl Zeiss Jena Biotar 58/2 and Carl Zeiss Distagon 28/2.8 are now in my possession. And the first tests look really good. :-)

A few years ago I was heading to Alaska for a fishing trip with some friends and needed a sling bag for my K3ii--fast! Amazon bailed me out with same day delivery on their Basics bag. For the money ($25!!) it was really solid, and I've enjoyed using it every since. I've been shooting a lot of concerts recently, and have moved to a more compact system. All I need is a body and 2-3 lenses, and they were just bouncing around the bag. Plus, it was bulky, so I was bumping into people with it. After weeks of research (the problem is real, people. How much $$ of my time went into picking out a $90 bag?!) I went into my local camera store to compare the Think Tank Turnstyle 5 & 10. I also had a chance to look at the Mindshift Photocross 13, and despite really liking the bag, it was too big with too many features for my specific need. The Think Tanks are simple and carry exactly what I need for a grab and go bag. I didn't want anything that could carry a tripod, or water bottle, or anything else. Just a body and a few lenses and an accessory pouch. That's exactly what this bag is. I ended up with the Turnstyle 10. I can fit my A7iii with the 24-105 attached in addition to an 85/1.8 and 55/1.8. I could even fit in the smaller 35/2.8 as well, but I don't want my lenses to rub against each other in the bag.

One of the other things I was looking for was a bag that hugged the body and made it easy to maneuver in a crowd without disturbing people. This bag does that. It's slim and comfortable. In short, I'm digging it and look forward to taking out to shoot some shows this week.

I just picked up a Benro C-158EX Travel Tripod with B-1 ball head on Craigslist. Loving it already. It'll replace my heavier duty Vanguard Tracker 4, which is a beast at almost 7lbs.

I'm not sure if I'll bring this with me when I leave for vacation next week. I did just pick up a Neewer table top tripod. I wanted to have something really small, and really lightweight that I could easily pack away in the corner of a bag, but sturdy enough to do a few landscape shots of the Tuscan countryside and astro shots, if the sky permits.

I nearly picked this same bag up this weekend. I'm curious to know how you like it in action. I ended up with the Mindshift Ultralight instead, mostly since it was carried at my local camera shop. It will be joining me on my trip to Paris next week.

I've had a good week for acquisitions. The first was a 35/2.8. The second was a Peak Design strap set. And the third was a new Mindshift Ultralight Dual 25L backpack for our trip to France and Italy next week. Looking forward to putting all three through their paces on the other side of the pond.
