I have 4 to 6 red squirrels living on my property full time, and I've never seen a mother squirrel moving her babies.

I still have my Commodore programmable P50 that could accept 25 program steps. It cut my time compiling marks for report cards to 1/4 what it took before.
MY wife worked in Cancer research and she had one of the early HPs back in 1974. It cost $800 (1974 only) for 8 memories. These days, I can do better with my phone.

I look at it occasionally, but I've comepletely forgotten how to use it. 60 years will do that.
And I bought the cheapest one in the Ministry of Ed. bookstore.

No pun, just a comment that is wildly inaccurate in hindsight.

I have mine from High School. My Science teacher said "Buy a good slide rule, you'll use it your whole life."

We see them fairly regularly, but not in a position where I can approach with flash. They are completely nocturnal. When we take the dogs out at night for their last pee, they are sometimes up on the hanging feeders. This one is on post I put there to support a bird feeder. Both the deck and post are now gone. I just walked out the door to the deck and fired away.

It's from 2014, and probably back there in the thread somewhere, but how about a Flying Squirrel? Flying-squirrel by Norm Head, on Flickr

I've been trying to get some images for a few days. After years of posing, Mama Squirrel and King Squirrel are gone. There are two new ones, but for squirrels they are incredibly camera shy. Since we had an Ermine hanging around for while, I'm pretty sure their shyness is why they are the two (of about 12) that are left. I'm going to have to focus on getting images of them. I used to shoot Mama and King just sitting there waiting to be photographed when there was a pause in the bird action. I guess we all take our turn being fresh out of squirrels to shoot. :D

I have pretty good squirrel control a the moment. A younger male has rep-laced King Squirrel at the feeder, and he is very aggressive, chasing away other squirrels. That coupled with the Ermine I saw go through the other day has really reduced my squirrel problem. now, if I could only get rid of three quarters of my Blue Jays so less aggressive birds could spend more time at the feeders.
I'm in a situation where chicks from a couple years ago who have never left the property and may not know how to live in the wild have now had chicks. I'd worry except I'm often gone for a week or two in the winter and they figure it out. Within a couple of days of coming home, they are all back, so they do have other options.

I've seen bird tossing food to the ground, to get the peanut they wanted higher up in the feeder.

When I lived in Toronto, an incredibly aggressive back squirrel took over our back yard. I once saw her bonk one of my cats on the head. She had two offspring, one black one grey.
Up here, they're usually red. We get a black every now and then, but they don't seem to last long. A couple days at the feeder at most. 2012-05-10-Feeder-creatures-8 by Norm Head, on Flickr
