With a 35 and a 31 already in the catalogue, time to move on to the 20's, where there is nothing for FF, and who knows, maybe even some day the teens. Although my Rokinon 14 2.8 really has that covered.

Pentax owners pay for "often better" and collect the discount. :D

It does make it a candidate to go the way of my FA 50 1.7, knocked to the floor while digging out another lens... replaced by the DA* 55 1.4.

OK, some expert come and say whether or not it's the same design....
Many designs that are known to be the same have different ratings on the forum. That's because of the inconsistencies of the forum rating system, not because one is sharper than the other.

I've had my K-3 next over to 5 years (since Nov. 2013). I got my first DSLR in 2004. 1/3 rd of my "good old days" were K-3 days. And not one of my lenses bought for 16 MP has not been stellar on my 24 MP K-3. DA* 60-250, DA 18-135 amongst the older of them. The talk of sensors out resolving lenses is camera store hype. Every lens I own has improved, every time the MP has increased. That magic point where the better sensor stops improving images has never been reached. The real shocker for me, that old lens design the F 50 macro now the 8 element 7 group DFA 50 macro.. edge to edge is better than the DFA* 50 1.4. The DFA 50 1.4 is smoother and produces much more appealing shallow DoF for portraits and clean looking subject isolation, but that old spruced up 30 year old F 50 (8 element 7 group) macro 2.8 repackaged 3 times, still does what it does as good as it ever did.

And there definitely isn't going to be two lenses that size in my pack. One is going to stay home... The 60-250 is a hard lens to leave behind.

No kidding, the K-P is a better camera for the 11-18 than the K-3 is.
I've never once used a burst with my Sigma 8-16, nor have i used the 23 shot buffer with it. The K-P is actually the system you want for this lens. What it doesn't,
you own't use.

I share you pain dude. My Sigma 8-16, rated a 5 star on Imaging Resources is internal focus, HSM with full time manual override, and 555g, and 75mmx105mm and it often gets left home because it's just too big and heavy to carry and I'd have to leave something more likely to be used out of the camera bag.
The DA* 11-18 is 704g and 90x100. Fatter and heavier.
In the good old days,
Tamron 90 macro 405 g 71x97
Sigma 70 macro - 525g --x 93
Pentax 100 macro 340g 65x80
I bought the Pentax, lighter, smaller , equal IQ, and WR. Even though it was more expensive than the other two. That's the old Pentax.
It almost makes me cry.

It was only a few years ago the net talk was a Pentax user was someone who'd buy a $1300 body so they could use a $50 lens on it. We can reverse the now. A Pentax user is someone who will buy a $1600 lens to use on a $600 body.
In any case, both observations are ridiculous. Having a camera like a K-70 or K-P, means you will get great use out of that lens should you decide to go that route, people's sense of irony has nothing to do with it.

You guys do realize that in this case an 11-18 to go with a 16-50, 50-135, 60-250 and 150-450 it's pretty obvious what the lens is for. As does the warmer groove for astro-phography.
Or as sometimes happens, someone shares a gem and it gets drowned out with theoretical objections.
For some reason people who know stuff won't spend as much time defending their teachings as people who disagree on nothing more than a load of internet crap will spend tearing it down.
Or as one of our Pentax ambassadors said, (and I paraphrase) "I don't come to the Pentax Forum much, I can't take the negativity."

Why are you buying screw drive lenses then?
DA* 16-50, DA* 50-135, DA*11-18, DA*200 all 2.8 and SDM.
DA*55 1.4
DA* 60-250 and DA*300 ƒ4.
DA 18-135, DA 16-85, DA 20-40
DA 18-50, DA 55-300
And I'm leaving out some third party options.
If you want silent, buy it. Quit being cheap and save your family the aggravation. What kind of man tortures his family to save a few bucks. :D

It's the biggest hypocrisy of the Pentax bashers. They want the latest high tech gear at screw drive or early SDM prices. If we had a dollar for every time someone has complained Pentax didn't stack up with some system that costs hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars more.....

Funny, I don't. It must not be a universal response. I have a lot of quiet motors, but when I use on of my screw drives it doesn't bother me at all, and I'm not jealous of anybody. Maybe i'm just not paying enough attention to the competition. Although in my defence, I'm not sure why I'd want to be jealous. How does that help?

I'm with you.... DA* SDM is not faster than screw drive. MY DA* 60-250 is by far my slowest focusing lens, left in the dust by lenses like the FA 70-210 and Tamron 300 2.8. You can't tell from the images whether or not a lens was taken with screw drive of an in lens electrical motor. Some people like having issues.They think it differentiates them in some positive way from us great unwashed masses.
