Exactly, I still remember my excitement when my K-3 came, leading to me eventually selling my K-5. If it's that feeling all over again, there's going to be some real excitement around here.

People aren't presenting evidence that they actually can match the accelerator chip, I've seen a lot of people make this claim over the years, yet not one iota of proof it's true. People are so gullible. :D

Every one says they can, nobody does it.
If it's so easy to do, why has nobody done it? Load the raw from that D500 file on Imaging Resources and do it, or really, button it. We want to know how long it takes. It gets tiring reading about things you might be able to do, but don't know for sure. The Pentax guys for years have been in the business of producing top quality images in terms of noise, longer than most software companies. Everyone just seems to assume that the software companies are as good at it.

For me, that's a question, not an answer.
It's quite possible Pentax engineers have isolated superior algrths and made them permanent fixtures on the accelerator chip. Being able to do the same in software assume without cause, that something the software developers can come up with is as good. I can see it both ways. The ways you might think about it aren't going to prove the point.

Hoping to see some example photos.
Someone should make that D500 image posted above look like the K-P

If I'd made this unsupported claim, they would have been done before I made the claim.
I'm not believing someone can make one look the other without them doing it. Until then it's just blowing smoke out your exhaust pipe.

We can see engine is running, but it doesn't look like you're going anywhere. At some point you have to engage the gears. :D

Over the years, "I can do the same thing in software" has probably been the most frivolous claim posted on the forum.

I think looking at samples on Imagine Resources, that the K-P is pretty much on par with my K-1 for noise at 1600 ISO and higher, but the K-1 still has better dynamic range. But dynamic range is one of the most over-rated specs on camera. It is a factor on very few images, sunset, terrible broad daylight images etc.

Only for lenses made by companies that didn't follow the Pentax design spec. K-mount was defined, other companies thought they were smarter.

Hybrid is the choice with the possibility of making EVF obsolete. It depends totally on implementation.

Ya, 10 FPS might be nice. There should be a 10 fps shutter, for the same price as an 8 fps shutter 6 years ago you would think. Or did i miss on the number?

It's all relative, are you talking K-1 for FF. D850 body only $4000 CAD
K-1 mkII $2500 body only.

K-P $1200 body only.

K-3 replacement at $1500-$1700 or roughly $1400 USD should be doable.

Development for new components is irrelevant, every camera has development costs for new components.

I want a K-P with a few incremental upgrades in a K-3 body for $1200 USD. I really like my K-3. But it's not going to last forever the way I shoot.

Which is why many of us want incremental change. A larger buffer, I'm sure the write speed of modern processors are faster than what was available as "standard equipment" 6 years ago. Just by going with the flow, Pentax should be able to put out a better product at a similar price. The K-3 can be improved without going all D500 ballistic just by implementing the off the shelf tech of today.

If you've done your home work, investigated the options, and made the decision that suits your needs, you don't need to revisit that decision over and over again. The first and really obnoxious thing about MILC proponents is exactly the trap one sees in this logic. It assumes they re telling me something I don't know. And when you say you did your investigation and decided to stay DSLR, they generally go negative on you. I know all I wish to know about MILC. I did my homework. My guess is I probably know a lot more about MILC than many of those who promote it on the site.

The constant problem of MILC in non-milc threads is, I've already made that decision. If Pentax introduces MILC, it doesn't matter, I'm not buying anybody's MILC. I already own a Pentax Mirrorless with an EVF.

Most of the MILC promoters do not in any way try and respect my decision. Most of them try and make out (like Winder did recently ) that we are Luddites. That level of aggressive judgement should be banned.

This is not about MILC vs DSLRs, this is about the basic rules of conversation. You shouldn't get to come here with the attitude that you're gods gift to the information age, because you made different purchasing decision than someone else. And you certainly shouldn't be allowed to get in everyone's face about it.

Valid is a strange word, I think if you project Pentax into some future tech, there is no need to do so with the attitude that people with just as "valid" opinions as your own, haven't put a lot of time into coming to a different opinion and it''s just as valid as their own. As long as we have MILC people calling DSLR users old, dinosaurs, Luddites etc. they simply are not worthy of respect. You get what you give, and the first thing that has to be given is the respect, that whoever you're talking to is as knowledgeable and smart as you are. If you can't grant that basic modicum of respect, you don't even belong on a social site.

MILC owners have become like Vegans. "I bought this shiny new toy, now I'm going to tell you about it, whether or not you care."

"Let me tell you about this camera you thoroughly investigated and rejected as an option 2 years ago."

" I don't care if it's relevant to you, I just want to have someone to talk to."

It's just nerdish behaviour.

Exactly, so if people who don't want to discuss Pentax stay out of the Pentax threads, everything is cool. :D

We can go to the mirrorless threads when we want to talk mirrorless.

No one has ever complained about someone talking about their Q, or even me talking about my Pentax XG-1 ( with it's EVF.) What is truly annoying is all those going on about things as if nobody but them knows a darn thing. I own a mirrorless, I own an EVF, and I owned a K-01, I've handled other brands in stores. I don't need anyone to tell me about the advantages of mirrorless in threads about Pentax gear. I can find all the information I need without their help. And using a Pentax EVF, I actually know stuff relevant to Pentax's implementation of an EVF that they don't.

If the thread is about Pentax and how to get the most out of it, discussion of Mirrorless is simply inappropriate. People need to learn some manners.

I'd go for that. It gets truly tiring listening to people who's only advice to Pentax users is "switch brands" and all their posts are devoted to advising Pentax users to buy something else. I'm all for those people posting somewhere else. And if I ever need their advice, I'll go find it. But the fact that participating in the forum is an opportunity to talk down the brand for some is unfortunate. I'm sure it keeps participation up however. Maybe counter intuitive.

But bottom line, discussing mirrorless is not relevant to current Pentax users.
It's a nice stick for poking the bear though.

Probably all those things and more. If more than 26 MP was technically possible with the same quality why wouldn't someone have done it? The big thing here is not the 2 extra MP, it's the back lit sensor and on chip PDAF, with the possibility of 4k video.

If you want more MP there's always the K-1 or 645z.

I don't know why everyone is stressing about 4k video. Pentax execs said the hold up was they didn't have the sensor for it. Sounds like if they have a sensor it will be implemented. Maybe not to everyone's standards but implemented none-the less. They went to K-AF4 to implement aperture control while shooting. They never abandoned video. But they aren't about to push the price up with a premium sensor just to implement 4k. It will be available when I can afford it. :D

My images yesterday were all mirrorless... but when I want it, I can have an OVF.
I also have a Hoodman if for some reason I want to go full EVF. What do you do on an EVF viewfinder if you want to go full OVF?

Because the back screen of Pentax's are mirrorless in operation. The mirror locks up when shooting in Live View. Do we have to tell you everything?

Not to mention, that there may be other improvements beyond PDAF.

Hopefully incorporating a new sensor is what's causing the delay in the release of the K-3 replacement.

It wouldn't be the first time Pentax stopped the presses to accommodate a new sensor.

If prototypes are now available the final could still be 6 months away. Remember it took them a long time to sort the K-3 cross talk issues. While the sensor sounds awesome, it's a rumour. Don't get your hopes up.
