K-1 and DA*55 1.4, I'm taking some 1.4 images, not because I particularly want to, but just because I can. :D
It's beer o'clock around here, but I got in from building the new garden shed 10 minutes early? What to do?
Take a picture of the beer, sorry, no retakes. 2020-07-20-Guiness-1_41 by Norm Head, on Flickr 2020-07-20-gargen-1_43 by Norm Head, on Flickr 2020-07-20-gargen-1_42 by Norm Head, on Flickr 2020-07-20-gargen-1_41 by Norm Head, on Flickr

K-1 and DA*200 2.8
1600 ISO, ƒ-stops from 2.8 to ƒ8, pushing the limits of exposure to keep from losing dynamic range. Times 1/15s to 1/160s click on the image and scroll down the page to see the exif for any given image.
According to Yahoo Answers
According to Wilkepedia
Shooting with the K-1 (as opposed to with the K-3 yesterday), incredible how much better the colour balance is and how much more tweak able. I was able to create a single preset to use with all images.
SO what it the real colour of a Raven? Blue Jays use the same iridescence so irridescence as opposed to real colour can be a thing.
He can be pretty black. 2018-09-11-AP-Raven-What-colour2 by Norm Head, on Flickr 2018-09-11-AP-Raven-What-colour5 by Norm Head, on Flickr
But depending on the angle of the light.... 2018-09-11-AP-Raven-What-colour1 by Norm Head, on Flickr 2018-09-11-AP-Raven-What-colour8 by Norm Head, on Flickr
And from the right angle...they get quite colourful... (Sigma 70 macro) 2018-09-11-AP-Raven-What-colour9 by Norm Head, on Flickr
So what colour is a raven? Same bird, same camera, different angles, light to bird and photographer to light.
Inquiring minds want to know. 2018-09-11-AP-Raven-What-colour4 by Norm Head, on Flickr 2018-09-11-AP-Raven-What-colour3 by Norm Head, on Flickr

The DFA* 50mm comes out, the DA*55 1.4 comes on sale for 499 CAD, less than 400 USD< actually cheaper than I paid for my broken FA 50. 1.7.
Of course, it's not what everyone is talking about, but, what the heck.
Following my usual practice I sat in front of the pos office and unwrapped the lens (sorry, no unboxing video) and took a few shots of the flower beds in front of the post office, a few more in my yard, and one at the Galeairy lake access point. 2018-08-15-flower-1st-55mm-4 by Norm Head, on Flickr 2018-08-15-flower-1st-55mm-3 by Norm Head, on Flickr 2018-08-15-flower-1st-55mm-11 by Norm Head, on Flickr 2018-08-15-flower-1st-55mm-12 by Norm Head, on Flickr
The ƒ1.4 shot that I actually preferred to the ƒ2 and ƒ5.6 images, a nice flat flower that doesn't need much DoF 2018-08-15-flower-1st-55mm-13 by Norm Head, on Flickr 2018-08-15-flower-1st-55mm-14 by Norm Head, on Flickr 2018-08-15-flower-1st-55mm-15 by Norm Head, on Flickr 2018-08-15-flower-1st-55mm-16 by Norm Head, on Flickr
I took this image just to check normal sharpness, contrast etc. 2018-08-15-trippers-1 by Norm Head, on Flickr

This image looks great at 109 DPI on my computers screen, certainly good enough for close viewing. Extrapolated that would give me a 67 inch wide print, that looks up close as good as any similar 35mm film image printed at 11x14 I ever took.

From yesterday's dog walk.
K-1 and DA*200 ƒ2.8
ISO 100, ƒ11, AV
Because so many of my walking shots were taken with the 18-135 and K-3 at 135mm, I actually don't miss much walking with the DA* 200 and the K-1. There were a few times I considered a lens change, but not compelling enough for it to actually happen.
The dogs

The setting, old logging roads near my house.
Along the way, ice covered drainage ditches and streams...
Moss and lichen peaking through he snow..

The DA*60-250 on the Q-S1, approx. 1000mm. The Blue Jays stay as far away as they can most of the time. These guys are gathered as far away as they can get and still get seed. I usually don't shoot a this distance. |

The K-1 definitely ads detail that is visible in even web sized images. I use the K-1 everywhere but small birds where I have no hope of perfectly frames K-1 images. To me, fur and feathers look more natural.\\Part of that is the K-1 gives me enough resolution, I rarely need to use sharpening. IIN fact my K-1 preset has all sharpening turned off.

I took the DA*200 on my dog walk today just for you.... although I have to admit, I really don't care which lens I take on my dog walk.....
This isn't going to be an IQ decision... this is going to be a do I want a heavy expensive zoom that has faster AF, or a cheaper, lighter older prime with marginally passable AF. I'm not sure you can make this decision looking at images. DA*200 and K-1 Slideshow here. |

My guess is the purple fringing affects my DA*60-250, maybe 1/1000, and th DA*200 maybe 3/1000. So ya, 3 times as bad, I don't know why I use it. :D
